Discuss today's stories:
Hopefully, someone can help clarify as I have spent some time on the Amex insurance portal and reviewed the accepted pre-existing medical conditions unsuccessfully.
Background: My 13yr daughter has serious food allergies, milk/eggs/nuts. Never had an actual attack/incident but in theory could do so we carry epi pens etc.
Question: Does American Express Business Platinum travel insurance cover, as I understand food allergies are classified as a medicial condition. And the pre-existing conditions list doesn’t show “food allergies”. But does show lots of other allergies, such as hayfever etc.
I have always played safe and purchased a separate family platinum policy from LV which allows me to detail food allergies, but wouldn’t renew this if I could utilise Amex instead.
The bottom line is that the Amex permitted list of pre-existing conditions mainly covers the most benign ones (eg insomnia, astigmatism or a verruca), ie the least or no risk to the insurer. Your daughter’s allergies are serious and if food allergies are not on the list, you really can’t expect to be covered in the event something happened, so you are much safer to have a policy where it is explicitly covered so you could get the very best care if required.
