Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Bonus points

    I recently upgraded from the fee free to the paid Barclaycard Avios, I was told online in a message I would earn 500 Avios for a £3000 spend if done in 3 months. I achieved this so asked when and how the points will be credited only to be told I was not eligible. I pointed out the previous online conversation and that if they failed to keep their end of the bargain I would be asking the ombudsman to step it. I was asked if I was just seeking the 500 Avios but as they have messed me about so much and I have taken my time to chase it up I will be seeking additional compensation. What awful customer service they have, anyone experienced similar??

    I am reasonably confident that if you raise a formal complaint, you will eventually be offered a monetary value far exceeding the 500 Avios.

    Thanks for this, it is in fact 5000/£3000 spend. The last time Barclays messed up it cost them a few hundred £. Its as if they set out to do a ‘bad job’!?

    I’m sure it was written on the website that if you have received a welcome bonus on your first card, then you won’t receive the upgrade bonus.

    Similar boat – Upgrade was all done in app and as far as I could remember, there was no such wording regarding not receiving upgrade bonus if had received welcome bonus. If someone can confirm if there is such wording, that would be great.

    I suppose you were promised 5,000 avios for spending £3,000.

    @NICKN – if you received a welcome bonus on the free card from which you are upgrading (or for the paid card before downgrading) you agreed at that time that you wouldn’t be eligible for any other Avios card welcome bonus without a two year break without any Barclaycard Avios card. If you were to get the 5,000 Avios, it would be by mistake – you won’t get a lot of support from the FOS.

    @YC
    – you don’t specify whether you were upgrading from an Avios card or another type of Barclaycard, but if it’s the former, there is no entitlement to a second welcome bonus as above.

    If either of you has previously received a Avios welcome bonus, it seems a little unreasonable to expect to glide between cards and hope to double dip on these bonuses which you must know you aren’t entitled to receive.

    As per JDB’s post, you would have agreed to not get another bonus, so your complaint would be on the basis of being given incorrect information, rather than not being given the bonus itself.

    Barclays will give you £25 or £50 to not take it to the FOS (regardless of merits of the case at FOS)

    Guys thanks for all the above. I have it in writing via the app that I would receive the £3000/5000 points bonus, I even queried it with them. as they have already not complied with their own ‘you will have a letter confirming your complaint within 5 days’ I look forward to when they will actually will acknowledge it. I will then deal with whatever they offer

    I took out a mortgage recently with Barclays and was surprised to see that the SUB avios + increased monthly avios were both posted promptly. I was expecting I’d have to chase it…

    So having received assurance that I would get £25 good will voucher and 5000 Avios Barclaycard have failed to comply with their self imposed date to put the 5000 Avios in my account. I have made another complaint regarding their failure to deal with the initial one, they are useless
