I have just spent nearly an hour in the IHG online chat with an obnoxious customer care representative. They have, astonishing, refused to add a missing stay to my account despite acknowledging that IHG was in error and told me to come back and contact them another day.
I think I just got one of the many a***oles who work there, but during my chat I was told that bonus point packages do not qualify toward Elite status. This was news to be and if it is the case, is certainly a recent change. Has anyone recent knowledge or experience of this?
I used a bonus point package 2 weeks ago and it counted towards status requalification.
Same here – I stayed in April but now I have been told that they do not qualify. This was by a. staff member who also told me to message back another day so they may just of been being difficult
They do still count, had one come through from a stay on Sunday night.
This pops up from time to time of customer support not knowing properly.
It clearly states on the app “Get more elite-qualifying points” before you choose it.
Who on earth would be buying the bonus points if they didn’t count towards elite status. Sadly I think some customer service reps know their own schemes less well than we do
I stayed at the InterContinental Warsaw last night. The bonus points posted immediately on checkout and reflected as Elite Qualifying on my account.
The CS rep is clueless. The Bonus Points packages definitely count.
You just need to be careful to select the correct offer, some hotels have separate packages, e.g. I have seen the standard 1/2/3/5k extra offers and then a separate “10k points per night”, where it is not clear if they are elite qualifying
Can anyone advise where I can get list of hotels that offer bonus points package also any relatively good value attempting to chase diamond again and not going to hit night targets.
Don’t know about a list. The Indigo in Dundee might be worth a look – it’s a nice hotel and can be around £60/night (without paying for points) in cheap periods.
Are you going to be close to getting Diamond on points? I’m not – I briefly considered buying points to get status, but realised there was no way I’d get value from this
My experience is that they all offer them as an add-on to the flexible rate when booking. Some offer up to 2000 pn, some offer 5000 pn.
Value differs though, I’ve seen 5K points as low as £16 and as high as £30. You just have to check with each hotel.
Indigos seem to sell these packages at good rates more often than other brands
Has anyone seen iberostar property with option to purchase points ?
Just do a dummy booking.
Select “best flexible rate” and it they do it’ll be offered on the next step of the process.
Just done that nothing available, anyone got recommendation on good value properties with 5k point purchase available, not so fussed on location although ideally somewhere ba fly to
This year I bought 5k per night in IC Budapest – stunning views, old hotel and last year in IC Athens – both hotels reasonably priced
In the UK many Indigos seem to sell 5000 points for ok prices (usually around £20). HI and CP tend to be less attractive
A couple of weeks ago when I last looked the voco in Manchester was offering 3k points for £18.
And 5k for £18
Go figure.
Indeed the Voco Manchester had been my under the radar find for a while
Ooh, interesting- I need to try that one as well. Though it annoys me beyond measure to be charged a tourist tax in my home town 🙁. Still, Andy Burnham’s office actually replied to my recent email about the state of the trains!
My bonus points from LHR T4 CP posted over night all present and correct.
2k for £9.50 was the sweet spot.
Did a few bookings including them as earlier in the year it looked like I’d miss out on diamond on the night basis and these bonus points would get me over the line on the spend basis.
Stayed at the Voco at the beginning of the month. Nice hotel but some TV channels just not available and after discussion with duty manager informed they are changing the system. Breakfast good with separate a la Carte egg menu.
As for the Manchester visitor charge Mayor Andy is innocent and it’s collected by the accommodation business improvement district made up of 74 hotels in the city hotel.
At a £1 per night plus vat it’s hardly onerous.
