I’m right in thinking I can I cancel my BAPP and pay for a 2-4-1 reward flight with the Platinum card (as per this)?
In theory, yes, though there were a couple of unsubstantiated reports recently of people’s vouchers being mysteriously removed when they cancelled the BAPP …
Yes, you can now use any Amex to pay for a 241 booking, albeit if you pay on Plat you will only get 1 MR per £ instead of 3 Avios per £ spent on the extra fees/charges. There is the small risk that has been highlighted in previous posts that in cancelling your BAPP rather than downgrading it to the free card you are falling foul of the term that requires you to remain eligible for the promotion. Amex will tell you this is the case (and we have seen reports of removed vouchers), but HfP will beg to differ. In view of Amex’s general tightening up, the past is perhaps no guide to the future so there is some risk even if it is low. On the assumption that you are cancelling rather than downgrading with a view to resetting the two year period for a new SUB, there is also the risk of course that they extend that period in the next 24 months and/or that you don’t get accepted when reapplying, an increasingly common occurrence; the world has changed somewhat. It’s your call!
