Hi All
I’m looking to use a Amex 2-4-1 and barlcaycard upgrade voucher for 3 people.
I know I can book the outbound now for the 2-4-1 and add the return when they open up in a few days, it’s an open jaw so I’ll have to call anyway (unless this has changed)
But i’ve seen conflicting in formation on doing this with the barclaycard.
SO can I book the outbound with the barclaycard upgrade voucher for 1 person and then add the return when it opens up?
And can the avios come from a household account? or do they need to be in the barclaycard holders account?

Unsure re you original question, but on this query points come from the household account pro rata, doesn’t have to be in the voucher holder’s account.
Yes, you can use BC voucher for this. You will need to call, you need to be starting from the UK, and you won’t get this ticket booked in the same transaction as the other two (which may cause stress on a “unicorn” route).
Also was wondering this. Have a trip to Toronto that I want to book using BC voucher.. no availability on the return journey on my chosen dates so was hoping to add that on as they generally do release availability at short notice.
Question is
A) is it possible to use the voucher when availability becomes available?
B) Is it possible to do the above even if the outbound leg has been flown?
C) could you use the voucher on an open jaw e.g London – Toronto and then New York – London? Assume I’d need to call for this?
Yes to the open jaw and you would have to call, at least to add the inbound leg.
It’s not clear whether BA would agree to book the inbound many months after you’d booked the outbound, but I think theoretically it would be possible if you pointed out that there was no availability previously.
As I understand it, you can’t make any changes to a 241 itinerary less than 24 hours before departure of the outbound, so I’m guessing this might also apply to the upgrade voucher.
Yes to A) and C) but definitely not B). Vouchers, whether they be Amex 241 or Barclays ‘upgrade’ are also governed by the BAEC/Avios terms so that once you have reached 24hrs before the outbound, the voucher is ‘used’ / unavailable for use, even if you haven’t used it to the extent permissible prior to that point – e.g. if just used one way when it could have been used for a return.
Amazing – thanks both for your help…
What you can do is to book that open jaw return prior to 24hrs before flying the outbound, potentially for a random date, and subsequently change that return flight (but probably not the routing) subject to Avios availability and paying the prevailing change fee per person and the return flight being within the one year ticket validity.
