Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Booked a room for one by mistake

  • 505 posts

I booked a room in Italy for one by mistake instead of for two.
It was a “pay now, no change” deal, and I paid for it in full.
I am HH Diamond if that matters.

What can I do to fix it? Can we just show up as a couple for a reservation for one?

Which brand was it? I’ve seen ‘Second guest stays for free in the same room’ listed as a Diamond benefit, this was in an email from a Hilton hotel tho so not sure if it’s specific to Hilton hotels or Diamond members…

Just answered in the daily chat thread. I would not worry.

Second guest free is a benefit for all Hilton Honors members, even with no status.

It doesn’t apply if the rate includes meals (but gold and diamond don’t need to book rates with breakfast, and dinner rate is usually a bad deal for gold/diamond unless it doesn’t also include breakfast).

What’s the price if you booked it as 2 people?

If it’s the same then I wouldn’t bother – but maybe email the hotel to say there will be 2 just for completeness

The only real difference I see this making is if any of the fees are based on the number of guests rather the room rate such as if there is a fixed fee tourist tax but that would be easily dealt with at the hotel on checkout.

Curious what they do in this situation if the room has only got a single bed. Is it just a cosy night for everyone concerned?

Two adults wouldn’t be allowed to sleep in a single room.

The hotel would probably take pity on you and allow you to pay the difference between what you already paid and the current price of the next available room for 2, but strictly they could probably keep your money and charge you for another room.

If a status member they might upgrade you for free.

Second guest stays free only applies in a room which accommodates the actual number of guests. So if you have 3 adults you can pay the price for 2 (if cheaper), but you still have to book a room that fits 3 adults.

    Child policies may differ.

It was 8-9Eur more expensive for 2 people. But, I didn’t bother taking a screenshot, so how can I prove it in case they demand an outrageous fee when checking in as 2 people? That was my concern.

In my case it was a Queen room for 2.
In europe I haven’t seen much single-only-rooms at Hiltons, maybe at lower tiers and in the States.
