Hi i booked via BA for me any my family. Prior to booking spoke to BA and they said 2 x 32kg for all on booking due to silver status. Booked and call Qatar they said no additional allowance so 1 x 23kg.
Called BA back and they reassured me its 2 x 32kg.
Anyone had this happen or know the rules?
@VikasG – you need to see the baggage allowance (as determined by status/class/fare) stated on your e-ticket(s) because that is what will be applied by Qatar check-in staff rather than checking the rules and they tend to be quite rule bound.
The application of extra status allowances across OneWorld airlines isn’t totally straightforward and BA will sometimes say you have a weight allowance when it’s a piece allowance and vv.
From your post, it’s not clear what airline you are flying and which airline’s status you have.
Qatar Silver = oneworld ruby. The equivalent BA status is bronze. This does not grant any extra baggage allowance on BA. When Qatar is the first airline in an itinerary, you get either 1 extra piece or 15kg above the normal allowance for your ticket.
BA Silver = oneworld sapphire. The equivalent QR status is gold. When checking in with BA, this will usually give you 2x 32kg bags unless it is a hand baggage-only fare, in which case you still get nothing. When checking in with Qatar, this gives you either 1 extra piece or 20kg above the normal allowance for your ticket.
As JDB says your e-ticket is the only definitive source for your luggage allowance. If you state your actual flight details and which status you have, someone may be able to work out what extra luggage you may bring as a status benefit, if any.
Got ba silver status and flying on a ba code with qatar.
In my experience the status based additional allowances do not show on etickets?
It simply states
1 bag (weight restrictions apply)
As i am on a ba code do i get ba or qatar allowance?
Is the qatar allowance for all on booking or just those with status? Ba is for all on booking
