Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Booking 4 one way flights using 2 x 2for1

  • 154 posts

We are a family of 4 and would like to make 4 x one way booking from USA to London. We have 2 x 2for1 vouchers (issued after September on BA Premium Amex).

    1. Do we use both vouchers for 4 one way journeys and book the remaining 4 one way journeys some other time?

    2. Can I use just 1 x 2for1 voucher to make 4 one way bookings for all 4 of us?

    3. If I have to use both 2for1 vouchers, are there any restrictions for me to redeem the remaining 2for1? I don’t intend to use it anytime soon. Do the passengers need to be the same?

Surcharges from US will be prohibitive. You’re better off buying cash tickets.

If you have two vouchers under one account you can book them for 4 people using 2 vouchers not one. All passengers must be travelling together. Name changes require cancelling and no guarantee that flights will go back to redemption pool. Also surcharges won’t be adjusted. You can add return flight later by calling BA.

Additionally, re Q1, you can’t use the vouchers one way and then have anything left to use in the future like an open ticket; the vouchers will show as used in your account. The vouchers are valid either OW or return.

Yes, you need to book return within ticket validity which is within 12 months from the day you booked outbound. You can add return 2, 3, 4 months later but only by calling BA.

Also you only need to book outbound within voucher expiry date, but inbound can be after expiry.

Thanks for the replies. I thought I could start and end anywhere on these new vouchers. So if I travel USA to London I need to book return from London to USA too?

Booking USA to London is cheaper than London to USA so I booked the inbound (London to USA) with Virgin as that was a lot cheaper re taxes.
Still quite confused about the 4 returns. Just to clarify if outbound is USA to London, inbound, a few months later, can not be London to say Dubai? I just want to use the one way part for this holiday and utilise the rest for an October break.

The issue is that, with two vouchers, you can book (the same) four people on either a OW, RTN or single/double open jaw basis but you can’t have 8 x OW. The trip you suggest JFK-LHR-DXB is permissible assuming the rules allow a stopover for the period you want (and that’s OW). You can then also return, within the ticket validity, but you need to book all this before your first flight. The rules actually say you must book everything at once but that isn’t currently applied.

How are you getting that USA-LON is cheaper? The taxes quoted may be less, but they are still vastly inflated compared to booking the entire journey as a return (which would cost currently about £800 each in surcharges). You’re going to end up paying huge amounts in surcharges if you book separate sectors.

The stopover is permitted on new vouchers hence why OP is probably getting a good price on surcharges, but still it will be inflated by UK APD if stopover is over 24hrs.

To add to @JDB reply – 4 passengers need to travel together either one-way or return on all legs. Once you book one-way the voucher is considered used.

You can add the return for the same passengers later before the first flight and within ticket validity by calling BA. They will not re-price surcharges. They might also not allow the stopover (this is still unknown thing on 241s). You also need to make sure that your route conforms to IATA and BA rules on distancing, i.e. LHR-SFO + TYO-LHR is permissible.

Frankly if you have to ask these questions, you should stick to using vouchers using standard routings. I mean this in a good way. I have seen too many people using vouchers incorrectly and having to cancel and pay cancellation fees.
