Hey all,
I have some American friends who are looking to visit London from Philly. They asked me if I thought their avios flights were good value:
85k points, $705 tax.
However when I tried it on this end, it was:
85k points £280 tax (so pretty much half the dollar value)
Is there a difference in tax booking in the States to here? I asked if they’d selected a companion voucher, but they said no…
TIA!
Yes it’s widely known in the points collecting circles that BA penalise US travelers in this way.
Yes BA charges ex US bookings far higher surcharges than ex UK bookings.
But pricing up PHL-LHR-PHL can’t really be compared to pricing up LHR-PHL-LHR as they aren’t the same product.
Are they booking on BA.com? Which cabin?
So is there no RFS for US members?
That’s from before RFS was introduced on long haul. In theory, you should be able to book PHL-LHR for 80k avios plus £175 (?) or whatever the RFS fee is no matter if that’s the outbound or inbound, unless it’s specifically blocked for US accounts.
