Hi, I am looking to make a Marriott booking. Total cost will be $2150 / £1750. Options are to book direct with Marriott and get 10x (21.5k) Marriott points or book the same hotel through Avios hotels and get 17.5k Avios.
Which option would be more valuable?
I do collect Avios and have the BAPP, but almost starting from scratch in Marriott.
Thanks!
It depends which have the most value to you. I would go for the avios, but I find Marriott award pricing crazy these days and don’t really use them any more.
Well his Rob-ness values Marriott points at 0.5p and Avios at 1p so that is £107.50 of Marriott points or £175 of Avios.
If you have no interest in chasing Marriott status then Avios every time.
Thank you both! Went with Avios hotels finally.
Another minor point – Marriott points are calculated on the base rate, not including tax. You would be very unlikely to get 21.5k from that booking – it would almost certainly be a bit lower.
If you don’t have Marriott status and aren’t trying to get it then avios seems like a better option, as you’ve done.
