Checked some dates in April to bangkok from LHR on the BA website using avios on QR. Dates required there is a flight which is first class from LHR-DOH and then business DOH-BKK (both flights operated by QR)
I have read that QR do often change aircraft , if there is a schedule change and the plane no longer features F , would I be able to get rebooked onto CX as an example into F ? Or would I be stuck with the downgrade / free cancellation
Looking at the redemption costs Its charging extra avios for the F sector , not sure if that makes any difference should there be an aircraft change and a downgrade
QR won’t rebook you onto another airline for an equipment or schedule change, but you may be entitled to downgrade reimbursement. I think there is only only daily Heathrow rotation QR3/4 which offers F. It doesn’t make any difference whether you have paid extra for F or been able to get F (usually between Doha and Bangkok) at the business Avios rate.
Unless the schedule change was significant you couldn’t just get a free change – as you intend to boo via BA using BA avios I think it would be rules that would apply.
Why are you using the BA site to book a Qatar flight?
Do you need to access Avios across your household account?

I thought Qatar never release First Class award seats on the London to Doha (and vice versa) leg.
Flights between Doha and Bangkok (or vice versa) are where you tend to see the occasional F award seat, and these are available at the same price as business class if you are connecting in Doha from another Qatar flight to or from the UK (in business).
Hi I’m booking via BA as need to use the household account , so if I do get notification of a downgrade from F to J , I’ll not be entitled to a free rebook onto another QR flight with F or another carrier also featuring F
Just wanted to check before buying , the redemption is 225 K for LHR-DOH-BKK-DOH-LHR with 2 sectors being in F and the rest J
Have you tried to book that? Past experience for me has been that the F/J combo doesn’t go through on the BA site, but it works fine on QR.
That also seems expensive if just for one person??
Hi yes for 1 person , normally pay 150 for business return , presume due to 2 sectors being first it’s pushing up … I’ve got the payment stage but still not sure whether to book Incase downgraded
BA used to fail for me on these combined fares after showing availability but before pricing.
However I would also price it on the QR site. They have an offer on at the moment where you can buy miles with a 50% bonus (until Sept 8). You might also find the taxes/fees are lower, as well as saving 50k Avios.
I would suggest you are over thinking the downgrade risk though, especially if it’s F on the LON-BKK sector.
It definitely errors for me (just tried it again).
Last year, I had to phone BA to book BHX > BKK return (F to/from DOH / BKK) as I too needed to access Avios in the HHA.
I cannot imagine Qatar dropping F on their flights to/from London.
And as for BKK, looks to me like they’ve got multiple aircraft with F next year (including an additional 777 (ex Cathay) in summer).
As Tony says, you are probably overthinking the downgrade.
especially if it’s F on the LON-BKK sector
I meant to type LON-DOH…
Why are you using the BA site to book a Qatar flight?
Do you need to access Avios across your household account?
Aren’t the BA cancellation terms better if booking via BA than booking via QR?
People have reported that QRs custumer service is less than stellar when dealing when schedule changes for example.

And they are probably right.
However, my own personal experience of trying to change a QR reward flight (booked through BA site) to one the next day was a real mess, taking several days and several calls, receiving nonsense commentary from some BA agents (e.g. a total fee of over £1600 to make the change and suchlike).
I’ve vowed to stick to QR for QR flights, unless I need to access the HHA.
As for cancellation terms, I cancelled another QR reward flight through the live chat on the Android App and received the refund less than 5 days later. I was charged £20 (or rather, £20 was deducted from the taxes & charges refund). This was approximately $25 USD which is the advertised change fee on QR site.
I also thought this so if LON-DOH is showing in F I would grab it
