Hi folks, thanks in advance for any helpful insight you can give on this…
I’ve booked a redemption flight out of LCY for me + spouse + infant son (17 months). BAEC Silver member.
Flying out late July in Club. So far it’s a pretty small cabin configuration – 3 rows.
The only seats left to book are 2B, 3A and 3B. We are obviously keen to sit side-by-side for obvious reasons (including for the sake of whoever ends up having to sit beside our son in the even we aren’t sitting side by side!) but when we try to do that via MMB we get an error message stating that two infants can’t sit together and we should try booking across the aisle from one another or in a different row.
Presumably this is because 3C and 3D already have an infant sitting in them?
What I am wondering is whether – having been on the receiving end of numerous ‘operational reason’ seat reallocations over the years – we can expect BA to move folk around to allow us to sit side by side with the infant?
Thanks – and I know there will be people on here who are outraged at the prospect/expectation of folk having to move seats for this reason!
It is a bit weird. I don’t think BA would compel people to move but if you were to book 3A and 2B (and the system allows you to do so) then I imagine there would be a 99.9% that if you asked nicely, 2A would jump at the opportunity to swap into 3A.
Even miserable business people can be remarkably kind sometimes!
It’s all about the way you ask. Say, “Would you like to swap seats so you don’t have to be next to my baby who is likely to scream during take off and landing.” Don’t say, “Would you mind moving so I can sit next to my partner.” People are much more likely to move if it’s presented as a benefit to them!
You should call BA to get this sorted out. But remember the CE cabin is flexible in size so it. It may only be a couple of rows now by July it’s likely to be much bigger.
One factor involved here is that with a lap child (I assume your son is a lap child or does he have a seat of his own?) there needs to be 3 x O2 masks over the pair of seats you are sat in and not every row on every plane has this.
Even on board this is something for the crew to sort out because of the O2 mask issue. It won’t be a request for for a move because of convenience it will be an instruction for safety.
