Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Booking with Companion Voucher with cash top up to upgrade?

  • 1 post

I am booking LHR-PVG with a companion voucher. Availability is Economy outbound and Premium Economy Inbound. 15 hours on the inbound leg is a long time without a bed so we would like to pay cash to upgrade that leg to Business. Is this possible at the time of booking online? Anything else I should be doing? Thank you.

It’s usually only possible to upgrade avios bookings with cash at the airport, subject to availability. That said, there have been a couple of reports of people being offered cash upgrades on reward flights recently so you could always keep checking in MMB and see if anything appears. Also keep checking for any more seats being released as you can then change your booking for £35 pp.

I was getting offers but it wouldn’t let you complete the purchase, which I understand is correct. The offers have dissapeared now so I think it was just a glitch in who was seeing them

It’s a route that seats may open up on at off peak times, worth a seatspy subscription I’d say

You can’t upgrade with cash until the airport I believe. If you have already booked those seats I’d set up an Alert on Reward Flight Finder to see if you can get business class and utilise the £35 cancellation cost if they come through. If you’re already booked on a specific flight, Reward Flight Finder offers the ability to set up Alerts for individual flights – so in theory you can use them to keep the same flight if the seat comes up. Just set the Alert for that specific flight.
