My list of things to visit is taken from Fallout 4 😀

Beyond the stuff in central Boston is there anything worth going to see in the area that doesnt require a car? Was thinking of going up to Salem as theres a train and its not too far. Marthas vineyard/cape cod seem to be difficult to get to without a car and plymouth rock seems a bit of a nothing trip?

Salem is interesting. Plenty of non witch stuff to do such as the Peabody-Essex Museum, House of the Seven Gables and maritime sites as well.

Easily accessible by train but do check the timetable carefully as it can be irregular. IIRC they have cheap weekend tickets at well

Not sure if you consider Cambridge as central Boston but it’s just across the Charles River and you can walk around Harvard and there are a couple of museums and galleries on campus as well.

There is also an MIT Museum which is as expected tech driven but not geeky.

In central Boston the “Ether Dome” at Massachusetts General Hospital is an interesting diversion and they also have an interesting museum of medical history and innovation. The Dome is still an active lecture theatre so needs a little planning in checking when it’s open for viewing.

Depending on when you’re going you can do a whale-watching trip from the harbour, it was about $60 pp and run by marine biologists who really know their stuff. You can also get the smaller harbour ferry across the bay and visit the actual USS Constitution and the very interesting museum!
