Hi all,
I’ve read the post / topic about the HHA and also tried to search the forums but it returned no results – so hope I am not double posting..
I don’t fully understand how to imagine it works so here’s my basic question.
If I create one with my partner, and say.. I have 150K personal Avios and she has 50K and we’d use the 2-4-1 voucher where the flights cost 190K – how will that look in usage? Will I use around.. 140 and she will use about 40 so we’ll still have some left over (in the pot and personally) or what exactly?
Thanks
Yes your sums are about right, avios is taken based on a percentage of how much are available in each account
Although just read again, with a 241 im not sure if you need the full balance in your account, another poster will confirm
Potential typo. I meant to say the flight is 180K for example. Out of 200k available between us is the split.
I have read that it is possible, however the article did not go into too much specifics for a simpleton like myself. Things changed, so might try to use this for our next redemption so would love to understand how it works fully.
In a HHA the avios are taken pro rate from all members of the HHA (even if they aren’t going to be on the booking) in the same ratio as the avios in their account
Lets say you have 80% of the total avios in the HHA and your beloved 20% when you spend for a reward flight 80% of the avios will come from you and 20% from her
Lets also say you have 70%, she has 20% and a young simey has 10% of the avios then the cost comes from the accounts in that ratio even if young simey isn’t flying he still contributes his avios.
So basically, nobody will go to 0 in their personal balance? So it would not ever be me giving all of mine and it’s topped up by P2?
In that sense, this is quite a good option to consider – much better than buying Avios perhaps to top up a deficit.
The only way to get to zero is to have the household total be exactly the amount needed for a redemption. This can be done by strategically moving a specific number to Iberia or Qatar(?) then back again
Can a HHA be used to redeem on Qatar?
Can a HHA be used to redeem on Qatar?
It can be used to redeem on any BA partner airline.
I also have a question linked to this subject please. My mother has many Avios that she would like to transfer to me. We’ve already done the 27000 for £15 so to get around the hefty fees for the rest, I assume that I can add her to my household account and use as needed bearing in mind that she will never be on any of the bookings? If my own personal account went to 0 would that be a problem booking flights from the household account to include me as a flyer as long as there are enough miles in the household account?

No problem at all.
Although once your mum is in your household account your stash wouldn’t go to zero as even when redeeming just for you, the miles used are taken pro rata from all members of the account.
The household account is totally your solution (as long as you trust your mum!)
Don’t give BA any more £15 fees.
