Very random but on the off chance anyone here has a home in France, does anyone have any advice on residential broadband in France? Such as good providers and cost.
Trying to persuade my parents to get broadband in their holiday apartment in France and thought I’d try and do some research.
My parents do (in Languedoc). They have always used Orange who I think have large market share from their historic position of being France Telecom. Knowing my Dad he will have researched the options carefully before choosing, but I can’t comment on what others he rejected.
We use Orange. In summer 2020 took less than a week for installation. So far no issues. We pay 35 Euros a month.
Thank you both. My parents are in Cavalaire Sur Mer.
It seems to have gone up in price https://boutique.orange.fr/internet/offres-fibre or https://boutique.orange.fr/internet/offres-adsl
We’re near St Emillion. Spoke to neighbours and friends throughout France. They all recommended Orange. As mentioned above, it is by far the biggest provider. We looked at a number of other providers including SFR and Bouygues but couldn’t find a reason not to go with Orange. Was all very easy to set up.
Prices rise in France on 1 August, so assume our costs will go up then.
SFR seems to be the cheapest of all 3 providers.
+1 for Orange.
I think they probably provide the best coverage in countryside villages across France, if that is relevant. They also have reasonably priced internet plans that include unlimited phone calls to landlines in many (most?) countries. And they may be unique in offering an Anglophone customer service number for people for whom French is not their native language.
They used to have a “decouverte” internet plan that could be turned on and off for holiday houses but unfortunately I don’t think they offer it any longer.
Should add that it is possible that the people on the Anglophone customer service line may have access to special pricing for their international customers with holiday houses in France.
Yep, Orange for us. V fast Wi-Fi, literally, fields all round us. Near Montflaquin. (Lot et G) And the English speaker service if you need it, v useful.
I forgot to answer your question re ADSL or Fiber. I don’t know about the competition, but Orange say they are phasing out ADSL in favour of Fiber. This is their excuse for dropping their very useful “decouverte” internet plan for holiday homes, but it seems to be with the encouragement of the French government.
