Discuss today's stories:
Flying to Asia in May. My wife was BA silver when we booked our flights last year so we took advantage of the free seat selection when we booked.
She has since lost silver so is now bronze and its saying we’d need to pay to change our original seat selection. Am I right in saying that 7 days before departure, we should be able to change seats for free ?
Yes, at T-7 (not just 7 days before), she should once again be able to select seats for free.
I’d try to change it now, given you have already booked seats and it’s BA want you to change. Try online, if not ring. They should say yes , but lost nothing if they say no

Where has @gavman99 said it’s BA that’s required a change of seats?
Until the bronze seat selection period kicks in they’ll have to pay to change.
I wouldn’t be calling BA as they might chuck you out of the seats which could also happen if there’s any aircraft change, seat reassignment/human seating review. Best to lie low until T-7.
I misinterpreted the “its saying” as they ‘been told to’ , yes if they want to volunterary change seats then will have to pay , or wait till bronze window.
Sorry, when I said “its saying” I meant the BA website when we go into MMB.
I understand the charge for people who havent reserved a seat but I was just a bit surprised that, for people who already have a seat resevrvation, theres a charge to amend it.
Onviously our seat selection was free due to my wifes silver status but in the event that someone was bronze at point of booking and paid for seat selection, is there still a charge to amend it prior to T-7 ?

It depends …
At any given time the system knows how much you have paid for seat selection, so you can choose any other seat that is the same or lower cost. If you want to choose a more expensive seat you have to pay the difference between its cost and what you have paid so far.
In your original scenario you haven’t paid anything yet, so if you want to move now you would have to pay the full cost of the new seat.
In your latter scenario you could move to a different seat which had the same cost associated with it, or pay extra for a more expensive seat. In both cases the Bronze benefit supersedes that at T-7.
