Hello. I have booked the outbound of my upgrade voucher online – LHR to Hong Kong. I just called BAEC Bronze call centre to book the inbound as well, as it was not yet live at the moment of booking the outbound. They told me they a PE seat would cost 40k avios and 190£ in taxes. But if i look at the website, a PE seat from Hong Kong to LHR, 01 Jan 2025, peak, is 33.87£ in taxes. I told the call centre rep that and she kept on contradicting me. I lost hope after a few tries and ended the call.
Does anyone know why she might say that the taxes are 190 when they are clearly 33.87 in the website? Note that I am aware i need to pay the taxes of the class that i want to travel in, and those are 33.87.
Thank you!
@vio.car – this is because when selling return ticket LHR-HKG-LHR BA charges £190 surcharge each way so that you don’t get to benefit from the limitation/ban on airline surcharges which you would get buying a one way ticket originating in HKG (ie the c.£34 you are seeing). Whether they should or not is questionable.
