Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Can I use BA Companion voucher in my wife’s account for my solo travel?

Circumstances have meant that we have a BA companion voucher in my wife’s BA account that expires next month. We have a holiday booked July and she doesn’t want to travel before, but I might on my own. Can I use the voucher in her account? We are linked with the family account.

That’s a negative I’m afraid, the voucher holder has to travel.

    In a word: No. Sorry.

Agreed with the answers above, but out of curiosity though (and probably a silly question too!) – what would happen if the flights were booked with a companion voucher, and on the day, the voucher holder could not travel, for example, they got held up in traffic or were ill or something.

Would the whole itinerary be cancelled or would the airline allow the passenger in front of them to board?

(and can you cancel a 2-4-1 at such a late stage without loss?)

Again, just curious – we just use the voucher in the normal way so don’t experience any of this!

    7. The Companion Voucher will be issued in the name of the main British Airways American Express Card Account holder, who must travel on any Companion Voucher booking.

So technically they could cancel the booking as being invalid, even though there has clearly been nothing gained as you would have paid more than you would for one person without the voucher. Whether they would actually cancel I can’t say – no one would have deliberately tried it to find out.

As with any other reward booking it could be cancelled up to 24 hours before for the usual small fee but not on the day.

Many thanks all. I guess I’ll have to let it expire 🙁

Why not use it for a day trip or an overnighter if a longer trip is not possible? It’s not the best use of a voucher but it’s something!

    It’s a real waste otherwise.

Don’t forget you don’t have to start in the UK and only the outbound flight has to be flown by the expiry date so you could do a flight to or from somewhere in Europe and add the return for a long way out. And you can amend the return flight date in the future as long as reward availability exists.

Of course you would both have to travel the outbound flight and make your way back again.

And pethaps letting it expire is better than travelling when you don’t want to.
