Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Can I use EU261 e-vouchers to book a BA flight+car package?

I recently tried to book a flight+car package using e-vouchers that had been issued under the EU261 law directive, but was advised by the BA Executive Club call handler the vouchers were only valid for flight bookings. From what I’ve read on this site and others, it seems she should have allowed by booking to go ahead, can anyone clarify if this is the case?

There are no “EU261 specific vouchers”. If instead of a refund you got a company voucher then that’s just a normal voucher and the rules will depend on the airline. BA’s vouchers can be used for flights and also holidays. But for BA holidays you have to call them, that’s all.

EU261 specifically precludes vouchers (instead of cash) without ypu specifically agreeing to it. If you insist on cash when you have an absolute right to it such as EU261 then you can spend it however you like.

If you took a voucher under an imitiative of BA instead then you may have inadvertently accepted rules that restrict what you can then do.

So it’s always worth working out what, if anything, do you have an overriding statutory right to. Or if you don’t have much in the way of rights then obvs you’d take a voucher with restrictions. But not if your rights were better. If your situation was covered by EU261 you may well have better rights, including a right to receive cash, that can be much more protective than what an airline may try to offer you.
