Hi everyone,
I recently had a BA Holiday Package.
I stayed on a Hilton property for two weeks.
As it was part of a holiday package, I didn’t earn any points (not even for room service!).
Now, I have a lot of Virgin Airmiles.
As I am not intending in flying Virgin, I was considering converting them and being a Hilton Rewards diamond member.
Next year, I am going on holiday to a other Hilton property, again using BA Holidays.
If I become a Hilton Rewards Diamond member, do I still get the perks despite it being a holiday booking? Or because it is part of a holiday package and I cannot earn points, so I not get the rewards?!?
Thank you,
UE
You can’t become Hilton diamond by converting virgin miles, you can only do it by staying 30-60 nights a year, spending USD 12000 directly on Hilton room rates or taking out a US Hilton Amex.
You don’t earn any Hilton points on a BA holidays booking at a Hilton and you don’t get any status benefits, but sometimes hotels will be more generous than they need to.
Indeed no points / stay credits. Mistakes happen but definitely not something to rely on.
Any status benefits will be down to the hotel if they want to give them to you – fully, in part or not at all.
If you want hotel status to count, make the BA Holiday a flight+car, and book the hotel direct. On a recent BA holiday, where there were no Hiltons in the area, I found that BAH had booked our hotel through booking.com 😀
I tend to message the hotel directly a week or so before a package holiday and ask them to put my membership number on the booking. Generally successful getting points for expenses, and sometimes the odd status perk (late check out etc).
I’ve had free breakfast as gold on a BAH booking, and the odd upgrade. I enquire discreetly whether any status benefits will be offered and see what they come back with.
Currently at Hilton London Bridge on a 2 night stay booked and pre-paid via Amex Travel (to use Bus Plat £200 credit).
Called Hilton to ask that the stay be added to my account so that I could see it in the app for checkin etc. They did this no problem and my Gold status benefits have been given as normal – received upgrade to exec room with lounge access (having booked basic king room) and free half bottle of wine in room, water, fast internet access and free breakfast for two. So, moral of the story is try and see if it works for your stay too…
Incidentally this seems to be a great Hilton venue – logistics excellent for a South Bank stay – right next to London Bridge station, in the shadow of The Shard. Easy walk to Borough Market, the Globe, the Queen’s Walk etc. and just over river from Tower of London. Lovely little exec lounge roof terrace and decent public spaces that spill out onto a pedestrianised area with lots of F&B options nearby.
Don’t know if it will earn points but having also won another bottle of wine on their ‘spin the wheel’ game we are feeling well ahead already 😎
