Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Can you get Avios flights to Perth Aus?

Been looking to get flights to Perth from London next year. I’m pretty sure when I looked a couple of months ago there were quite a lot of flights, changing in the Middle East with Qatar. When I looked tonight there doesn’t seem to be a single flight of any class available on any dates I checked from June through to September?

Was it a glitch when I looked before and there aren’t actually any ever available?

Good question, I have been looking at QR redemptions more broadly and they seem to be non existent vs 6 months ago. Has something happened?

Try Qatar Airways app or website. You can link your Avios account and if you search for awards flights there are plenty in Economy. More difficult to get standard rate in Business as all seem to be x2 Avios.

How do you link, open an account on there and do it after?

If you were seeing “lots” then you were likely seeing the double-Avios ones from Qatar? May still work for you if you are Avios rich of course, or travelling on particularly expensive dates.

I’m looking at redemption from Birmingham to Perth via Doha. Just searched random dates for August 2024 (out 6/8/24 and back 29/8/24) and a return for two in Economy is coming up at 180,000 avios plus £700.00, which I don’t think is a bad redemption? Admittedly, all Business and First are coming at x2. I’m just waiting for November flights to be released, so we’ve not booked yet, but there are plenty spaces from what I can see.

Out of interest has anyone ever been able to book the direct QF flight from LHR-PER in either direction with avios in any class? I suspect availability is incredibly limited on this route?

That’s £1800 worth of Avios and £700 of cash for two economy tickets, so £2500. You can already get there for cash for less than that on comparable routings from UK airports – and earn points of some variety in the process (and ticket prices will still be high this far out – far more likely than not to fall over coming months, particularly if you are not tied to a single set of dates). If you don’t mind 2 or 3 stop routes you can get there for cash for a lot less than that even now (around £800 each). This would only be a decent Avios booking if flexibility is important to you.

Have literally never ever seen them available – although I’m not looking last minute when I suppose it’s possible. Very happy to be corrected as that means I can continue to search for the unicorn!

Business cash prices I’ve never seen without a big premium (understandably), but economy cash prices are surprisingly variable on that route – have seen them with an absurdly large premium but also at identical and even slightly lower cost to better one-stop routings. Would have flown it except family did not fancy 17 hr nonstop in economy, which is fair enough 😀

Thanks for that, worked a treat. Is loads of flights on Qatar with Avios, some Club and odd First even. 360k AVios return club plus 500 quid, I think thats actually cheaper than with BA?
