Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Can you have 2 Barclaycards? Platinum and Avios?

Im just wondering if anyone is in my position
Ive held a barclaycard platinum card for over 10 years and always been happy with the rate for paying for the the likes of gym memberships and car insurance etc where the rate is better for monthly payments etc.

My problem is i now want a Barclaycard Avios card . I would need to cancel my Barclaycard Platinum and wait 6 months according to the rules. But i have also read that if you download the Barclaycard app some people who already hold a barclaycard and also getting offered the Avios card ?
Anyone done this . Ive tried downloading the app but im waiting for the little code generator to arrive in the post.
Im wondering if i call Barclay card they might agree to give me an avios card ? i’ve tried to cancel the platinum card a few times in the past and they have offered me a cash amount to stay with them so i must be a ‘valued customer’:-)

Via the app, it offer you to CHANGE your card not a separate one.

It took me 2 goes to cancel my card, let alone offered any retention.

You can swap cards in the app (move from Platinum to Avios) if that’s an option. I moved from the old legacy cashback (0.5%) card to the Avios one. You are eligible for a small spend bonus for this (1,000 Avios on the free card or 5,000 Avios on the paid card).

You cannot apply for a second Barclaycard if you already have one. You’d have to cancel and wait 6 months. They used to allow multiple cards many years ago.

Ah right , just a change of card and no real sign up bonus on there ? that sucks
Will probably have to cancel and wait it out then 🙁

I would say that although the bonus is not great for Product changes, is not massively so for the standard free Avios card.

Also, if you are a legacy customer with multiple cards, you can Retain those multiple accounts and swap them to more rewarding recent products offering: both my wife and I have two Barclaycards each, with the oldest for both being our oldest credit account (over 20 years) so not wanting to lose that for credit history purposes. I already have two rewards card (legacy black cashback and Hilton cards) but my wife only had to standards Platinum accounts. We decided to change both her cards (that had no benefits for spending) for the standard Avios and for the Rewards one (0.25% cashback and free Forex usage). Both changes went through, slower then historical experiences, however the Avios was particularly slow at over a month wait to get the card.
