Forums Payment cards American Express Can you refer from UK to Europe?

I have friends and family spread around Europe who want to join Amex.

Anyone successfully referred European based F&F? They’ll be opening an Amex card from their region.

I think you have to have (at least a nominal) UK address to open a UK Amex and benefit from referral/SUB offers.

No, is the simple answer. Your overseas F&F also can’t use a ‘nominal’ UK address as without any sort of current UK credit footprint they won’t be able to make a successful card application and without a successful application, there is no referral credit.

The intention is not for them to apply for a UK amex card, but enquiring as to whether a UK amex card holder could refer someone in for example France, to open a French Amex card. In essence, if you can refer across national boundaries in Europe?

No, because the application form is based on the applicant having a UK address. There are people on this forum who spend much of their time abroad but keep an address in the UK but as @JDB clarified, they’d need to be established here to be able to open a credit card account.

@Ash, the links you provide will take the applicant through the UK Amex application process.

I’ve just found a French Amex referral link on the internet for example, and it is asking me for all sorts of French things like a “Prénom” and a “Nom”

    😉
