Forums Payment cards American Express Can I cancel my BA Premium Plus Amex and keep my 241 voucher?

Has anyone taken the risk and cancelled their BAPP and not just downgraded? I would like to cancel outright but Amex chat said I would lose the 241 unless I just downgraded to the free blue card.

Pretty much everyone on this forum has done this. Once it’s in your BA account, Amex can’t touch it. You need any Amex, even someone else’s, to make payment when you eventually use it. Anything else Amex say is just bluster.

I did this today. Two vouchers are still showing. The AmEx lady told me that “BA Conditions of Carriage mean that you have to hold an AmEx card in your own name when you travel.” I do not believe her. I cannot see how they would know that the BAPP Supplementary Card that I carry (in my name but on my wife’s account) is not on my account. They really have no way of checking this, just like Amex have no way of recalling the voucher. I may be proved wrong, but I’ve taken the gamble.

On this theme, has anyone downgraded from BAPP to blue via chat, or does it need to be done by calling them? I’d rather keep the blue card for a while rather than cancelling altogether, but trying to do this quickly without calling if possible! As I understand it, you can no longer apply for a new blue card and it recognizes this as a downgrade, but please correct me if I’m wrong

So sorry, just seen this mentioned in another thread! Still getting the hang of this forum lark – must check more carefully before asking! It appears I can do this via chat

The call only took five minutes the other day when I did this

To avoid opening another thread, I’ve reached the spending limit last week. Will I receive an email when the voucher is “ready”? Where does it shown on my BA account?

EDIT: never mind, I see it on my BA account now (I would swear it was not there this morning).
