I was hoping someone could help me understand the information given by BA. We have flights booked LON-NY return from 31st Oct – 4th Nov. The booking was made partly using Avios points.
On the confirmation email under endorsements it says “Pax nonrefundable restrictions apply -bg:ba.” We would like to change our return flight to come home from Washington instead, 2 days later on 6th November. I appreciate the ticket is non refundable but they’ve told us to cancel the return flight from NY would be £150 each, then we’d have to make a new booking for the return flights we want.
Why would anyone pay £150 to cancel and not get a refund? As we still want a return flight – is it not possible to transfer anything to a new flight?Thanks,
A bit more information would be helpful here.
Is it an award booking, i.e. paid for with avios plus a set amount in surcharges, or did you use avios to reduce the cost of a cash flight? If the latter, then the normal cancellation policy will apply – this will be cited in your booking confirmation. Unless you book a very expensive, flexible ticket, then usually cancellation and change options are extremely limited.
Is this a cash ticket using avios to reduce the cost or an avios ticket?
They aren’t the same and have different rules.
The former has little or no flexibility as it’s still a cash ticket. If a cash ticket is cancelled then you only get the government taxes and airport fees back. You don’t get any sort of credit for the fair and BA surcharges elements.
If it’s an avios ticket then it’s possible to change as long as there is avios availability and you pay any change fee.
It is a cash ticket using some avios to reduce the cost.
