Cancellation of MIA-LHR BA206 today – reason?

Does anyone have the ability to look up the reason BA206 MIA-LHR today 17Mar24 has been cancelled?
Due to fly home on it from Key West. Have been rerouted via CLT rather than the later MIA-LHR which BA Hols duty officer said was full despite seats in J (and F) available to purchase, even 12 hours later.

which I’m guessing is A380 woe related. Timekeeping today is fairly good, better than yesterday, 326 BA departures from LHR. ATC report is a bit terse.

Thank you. Not sure exactly what that means. Is that the cancelled outbound on the same airframe?
Frustratingly, I was originally booked on the later unaffected BA MIA-LHR. But BA rebooked me into the earlier and now affected flight because my minimum connecting time at from Key West at MIA was 60 seconds less than policy!!
At least you’re connecting at CLT which is a relatively nice US airport.
It looks like there is no coordination at BA to recognise that you have UK / EC 261 rights as well as Holiday Package legal rights. BA Hols looks to be booking you only into flights which have the booking class of seat available that they would normally have a quota of or access to, ehen they make new Holiday bookings.
Whereas if BA Hols asked BA as the flight operator to do the right thing, BA as flight operstor is legally not allowed to insist on booking you only into a similar booking class (eg avios type booking class or Holidays type booking class), EU261 / UK 261 says you have a right to be booked into any seat availsble in same cabin eg Economy or Club (proxy for this being currently available for sale). Booking class being a subset of cabin class and typically several booking classes are sold under each cabin type.
Practically you are correct, all I would do is claim every shred of compensation available to you, at £520 per seat applicable also additionally per ‘free’ companion seat, and submit an appropriate set of meal receipts for each segment of additional ground waiting time you are now having to increase your journey by, at reasonable locsl prices where you have to spend this extra time assuming mealtimes occur during your extra wait(s).
Also if you get stuck again, make a point of asking them or trying to contact them for any needed hotel and also claim transport to and from any extra hotel en route. Claim compo separate from the other expenses in case BA tries to say a plane lateness in Africa 3 flights ago caused your rostered aircraft not to be available today, separating so they might pay the right to care expenses while you argue about comp.
Unless they’ve put you on one of the nicer AA aircraft from CLT then it sounds like you will be travelling on worse aircraft than you booked too so go for what you’re due.
A380 G-XLEH was late returning from JNB this morning. BA207 cancelled and consequentially BA206 cancelled.
Hah! Potentially as I mentioned @Richie. Claim compo anyway though for your cancelled flight.
@jonnyfly – at this stage, the reason for the cancellation doesn’t really matter. Many cancellation reasons you might be given are also too generic to be of any value. If you don’t think the cancellation was for ‘extraordinary circumstances’ you should claim compensation (if you haven’t been rerouted inside the -1/+2hr window) and see what BA says and if they reject the claim and/or you don’t believe the response you can escalate to CEDR/MCOL where the burden is on BA to offer proof.
Two BA A380s are at MNL for scheduled maintenance and another seems to have gone tech, seems a risky time for BA A380 flights at the moment.
A colleague’s LHR-MIA flight also got cancelled today. They were told technical issue/broken plane. They were put on a flight tomorrow and told to claim compensation.
There was an issue with the A380 to Dubai yesterday. My son was on the next flight to which a number of passengers transferred.

The obligation here is to get you home ASAP and eliminate delays and it looks on the face of it that the via CLT routing does that.
Whilst BA may still be selling seats on the later flight it may be over selling knowing that some other passengers won’t turn up so the buyer can be accomodated or they’ll bump someone. It’s my understanding that BA Holidays won’t rebook their passengers into those over sell seats only where there is a guarenteed seat for their passenger.
Another factor in not rebooking you is that there may be more in your party than there are seats available and they don’t like splitting parties up.
AND just trying to buy a seat today for MIA-LHR only AA flights are showing and both of those are indirect!
It looks like you’ve been put on AA flights so make sure AA has your BAEC number in the booking so the points post and use the AA app to check the seat maps. AA allows you to change seats even once you’ve checked in. You should get 40 TPs for the MIA-CLT flights so that’s a small consolation as well.
