Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Cancelled GCM seats Easter 2023 reappeared in award inventory

Earlier today I cancelled 2 x CW LHR-GCM on April 3rd and 2 x PE GCM-LHR on April 14th 2023. They have (miraculously as current cash price is around £3k pp) reappeared in the award inventory if anyone wants to grab them.

Just to add a data point here, I cancelled two CE seats on the first weekend of Feb half term Gatwick-Salzburg and they went back into award inventory, too, despite this being peak, peak time. I didn’t check cash fares at the time (it was maybe 3 weeks ago) but see that flight is now charging £649 in CE and £477 in Y one way…

I think it’s been suggested before the original seats released at T355 should reappear whereas any additional seats released during the year may not.

We have been invited to a wedding next May half term in Palma, but when I checked flights could only book award seats which landed a few hours hefore the ceremony which were not ideal and cash prices looked horrendous. I set up a seatspy alert and a few weeks later had the notification of seats and could see someone had cancelled 4 seats both ways for the full week so quickly snapped them up. An hour later I got another seatspy alert which was my original flight becoming available again.

To be honest I can’t imagine we would have gone if not for the RFS option, no way would I have paid the cash prices I’ve seen.

@MattB that’s interesting as I picked those Salzburg seats not at T-355 but as soon as they were released. BA launched a raft of new flights ex Gatwick in the late summer as I recall, but you can see why they would fall under the same “bucket”.

Our plans changed as we decided our son wouldn’t cope for 2 weeks on his own! 5 x PE to MIA appeared so I bagged 3 of those plus award seats on AA from MIA to GCM so we’ll have a couple of days in Miami which is no hardship. MIA can also be really hard to get at peak times so I was more than happy with PE, especially as now I’m silver so could select good seats and get 2 of us into the lounges!

Another good reason not to travel direct to GCM is that it appears they are now using the even older aircraft without club suites. This is probably related to the decision to increase flights per week and along with the move to T3 all in all its a denigration of service. My seats for a trip in April have now been changed and I’m thinking of alternatives. Incidentally I recently complained about my CW flights to GCM last month owing to a catalogue of poor service for which I got the customary 10k avios.

We were in Club Suite in July. But the experience was poor, one main meal (chicken pie!) plus the dinky afternoon tea is completely inadequate for a 12 hour flight.

I like routing via MIA – we got award flights on AA to GCM for 7,500 avios plus £5 and I love that route over the Keys and Cuba. When the exchange rate was a bit better we’d spend a day shopping at the Dolphin Mall – obviously most retail therapy in Cayman is out unless you’re a millionaire!

How did you bag those tickets Anna?

Which ones? LHR-MIA just appeared a few days ago, I saw them on SeatSpy, cancelled my GCM seats to get my 241 back and happily it re-appeared straight away.

The AA seats were just there, plenty of them on multiple days. I find that they tend appear at specific periods, (notably about 1 month out as Americans book a lot then cancel as they’re only losing $6 in taxes). Or literally “how” – search “book with avios” on ba.com for MIA-GCM.
Doing DCA to Key West on redemptions as well next month.

He’s about 16-17, right? Time to let go?

If he’s 15 or younger, I’d be more cautious.

Obvs your home is in danger lol

He is 17 and capable of looking after himself for a few days but 2 weeks is a big jump and family aren’t nearby in case there was an emergency. We’ll see how he copes for a week in June then take the plunge with longer trips!

I’d be more worried about the family assets. Not so much parties – you know him better than I, however 🙂 – but a smoking ruin.

Anyway – he’ll enjoy the trip.

Hmm, there would be more chance of him burning down the house if he actually ever switched on the oven!

Actually, it’s not entirely altruistic, I’ve extended the trip to 3 weeks now!

Good job it’s not a 17YO daughter lol. I spent her weeks out in the heat this summer getting yelled at when she was in the (plunge) pool, ie get the hell outta here. I retreated to the shade of a friendly Horse Chestnut tree to read quietly.

Which turned out great as a European Jackal puppy wandered up to me from the ‘jungle’ in the next garden. Ran away fast as soon as he/ she realised I was alive & breathing. Definitely not a fox.

Would that put you in Italy – I always wondered?!

The jackals are fortunately/ unfortunately (depends on whether it matters about locating me!) spreading all over Europe now, incl Italy, France, Greece etc, they like to wander & have big territories. See Wiki. Very successfully colonising new countries. I was standing in the rain in the summer about 3 years ago (waiting for a delivery, otherwise I wouldn’t have been outside) and I got a really good look at an adult Jackal. House is in a National Park so loads of forest etc.

A few years ago we were near Marbella and an Iberian fox sauntered across the patio while we were eating breakfast, as casual as you please!

I feel mildly sorry for site owner. You (this Northern Lass) went loadsa great places – you have GCM under belt, Cannes or was it Nice? – loadsa other great places incl ISTR California on cruise. That guy our site owner is well-travelled in his youth. But now seems wedded to Dubai, of all places.

Here is not the place to raise a pathetic political point about Qatar/ LGBTQ+. Others will do it better, elsewhere, we can be sure about that. World Cup & all that. Dubai not so different.

Can somebody induce him to go to Chiang Mai? Land of Smiles? Land of best food in the world?

    Australia? NZ? Laos? Vietnam?

Greetings brother – Camping around Europe with the young ones doesn’t work for us at the moment. Would you mind the glamour for a little while?

I’ve never been to Dubai but it sounds preferable to an English winter! It has a fair bit in common with southern Spain …
If things don’t improve re the US $ 2024 may see a complete change of direction for our travels (except South America, which of course is in the same direction, geographically)

A random observation which further corroborates the T-355 seats going back into inventory. Courtesy of seatspy I just bagged 2x LHR-MRS on 9th September at 9:00am.

These flights are £478 for cash (economy!) so there is no way BA randomly decided to release two.

Whoever bought them stayed up to 1am to get them and was faster than me. I grudgingly took the 7:10am flights and am more than willing to pay £35 for the best part of two hours in bed.

Award seats are released at midnight at the moment (GMT), which is why you might have missed them, @Froggee!
