Hi,
I plan to cancel my Amex Platinum before the 2nd of October to get the pro rata refund and because with limited upcoming travel and limited restaurant options near me I’m now struggling to justify the cost v the benefits. I have three questions before I do:
1. Will any Offer Credit that has not yet posted still post after cancellation or will I lose that? Or is it eligible assuming I make the purchase before I cancel?
2. I have an FHR booking for November using the £200 credit. Will that booking still stand even after I cancel?
3. Do all other benefits e.g Priority Pass, come to an end immediately?
Thanks!
1. Yes will post.
2. Still stand unless you cancel it but the £200 will be lost.
3. Immediately
Thanks Zapato – so you reckon even though I made my FHR booking a while ago and I’ve already had the £200 credit posted, that they will claw that back if I cancel?
Just to clarify then, the statement credits for the dining will simply be added straight after cancelling for the prorata refund? Or will it still take some time?
Also I am just under the welcome bonus spend trigger – is it best to do this asap so the points are posted before cancelling? Will the points immediately be removed after cancelling?
Many thanks

No dont worry they wont claw back. Only if you cancel the hotel it wont be returned, its gone forever.

dining credits usually take a week to credit even if you cancel. yes hit the bonus spend asap that way the points can be added which you then have a month (pretty sure its a month) in which you either move to another MR earning card or they are gone forever.

The key question here is: Will the dining credits post to a cancelled card? If they will, you can obviously request Amex CS to move the credit balance to another card, but if they won’t then you will be on the hook for the dining bill. Has anyone done this in the past before cancelling the card?
I’ve just cancelled my Amex Platinum, and booked a hotel using the £200 credit a few months before I cancelled the card. I now need to cancel the hotel booking – will I get the full refund (per booking T&C), or will Amex withhold £200 for the credit as the booking has been cancelled? Thanks.

You’ll get a full refund for the booking, but the £200 credit is meant to be clawed back and you won’t be able to use it again.
