    Having paid for one booking recently via Paypal, and now looked at others, I beg to differ.

    As a side question: If paying with Paypal, are they not now an intermediary and as such you lose Section 75 (and other consumer) protection??

    It’s been discussed in one of the very long threads on here, @JDB previously posted helpfully that the Ts and Cs currently require you to be simply a BA Amex holder, and either the free one or the paid one would be acceptable if anyone ever checked.

    There are perfectly innocent reasons for not being in possession of the exact card you paid with, for example, it expired before your departure date.

    I’ve never been asked for a payment card in 30-odd years of paying for my own travel, including 2-3 times per year with BA for the past 15 years.

    No requirement to pay for a 241 on a BA card, so pay with a different Amex and take that to the airport – which is explicitly provided for within the t&c’s.

    @jdb
    may be along in a minute to provide a t&c clause that refers to taking the BAPP with you, regardless of what card you paid for the tickets on. But it’s not something I’m aware of.

    There are many other ways BA could be informed by Amex you no longer hold the card. Which could be changed at any point.

    I had the thought this morning about cancelling BAPP and getting a pro rata refund so I can start the clock on the 24 months sign up bonus

    I thought that you could no longer get a pro-rata refund of the annual Amex fees?

    For some reason that has been put on hold.

    2 pages of noise and this is the only relevant comment imho. Lots of quotes of the Ts&C’s from the usual suspects, which years of real world evidence debunks.

    In summary for the TL;DR crowd, you don’t need to pay with a BA Card, BA have never been known to ask for you to produce your BA Amex and swipe it to prove it is still open at time of travel and quite frankly we’ve never heard from a legitimate source anyone ever having their 241 pulled when cancelling their card.

    Unless BA give a clear instruction that you would be denied and we have reputable evidence of people being denied access. You can cancel BAPP, pocket the voucher, get pro rata refund and still use it effectively. As for me, P1/P2 the BAPP will be kept.

    I believe it’s on hold but will happen this year, I downgraded and got the refund in yesterday
