Cancelling Platinum Card – what to do with points?

I have nearly 100k Amex membership points and am looking to cancel my card so that i can reapply in 24months time for another sign up bonus. Would it make sense before this to refer my wife, i take the supplementary card and i get referral points before i cancel my card? I know it is better to only transfer Amex points when needed, but if i give up my card now, whats the best place to tranfer them too? I only have a material number of Avios but open to transferring them to whatever loyalty programme are most versatile/valuable.
