Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Can’t book depart Dublin for Orlando via LHR, return to Manchester

  • 105 posts

The flights Dub via LHR to MCO return are available to buy on Virgins website, so is the Manchester to Orlando.

What seems to be a nightmare is depart from Dublin then return to Manchester.

Phoned Virgin and they say they can’t book it. Seems weird as both are available to buy on their website

    Any thoughts

Just because it’s available as two singles does not mean they can be combined into a return.

I vaguely recall an advanced search facility on the VS website where you can enter multiple sectors, have you tried that?

Yes tried the multiple airports – didn’t like it

Is this a reward flight? I know when I used to work for an airline, return revenue fares from a country (say UK) would be a GB1 fare and had to start and end in the same country. Could this still be the case?

I know very little re Virgin flights, but there have been multiple reports here of directional availability and non combinable availability which applies to some cash fares as much as reward ones.

As @BA Flyer IHG Stayer says, two singles can’t necessarily be combined into a return with Virgin. I’m not aware of BA doing this very often.

New this year seems to be the unwillingness of VS to book on to BA/EI flights in many cases. I’ve had it myself, and seen it referenced a few times. The theory seems to go that, where the original service is delayed through no fault of VS’, VS takes on the additional cost implications of re-routing you. This happens sufficiently often that it was probably causing a cash drain, and possibly even ending up with situations where they had to then re-route you on to another carrier (BA) to get you moving again, thus cash expenditure and service degradation. VS Hols, for example, will not book you MAN-LHR-XXX (where XXX is wherever you like from LHR on the VS network), citing VS ticketing restrictions.
