Any recommendations for Sicily Palermo? Ideally airport collection but not a deal breaker if there’s something drastically better in the city centre.
I know this is usually impossible in Europe, but I’d really like a convertible 🌞
Sometimes cars with fullish roof roll-back systems are cheaper and deemed ‘convertibles’.
If you fancy a VW or something more premium, I feel you may pay a substantial premium.
Just got back from a trip to Puglia. Met a Canadian in Salento who said don’t ever drive in Sicily. She followed it up by saying Palermo is way the worst place for driving in Sicily.
Not that I’d like to put you off!
I’ve driven in Sicily, it’s no different to driving in Tuscany.
If the car behind wants to go faster, slow down and let them over take you.
I used Avis a couple of years back and drove everywhere…it’s no different to driving in any southern European country. Avis prices are obviously going to be more than local providers like Sicily by Car – esp for a premium car – but they are less likely to try and scam you with various charges. Stating the obvious here, but ensure that you have comprehensive car excess insurance if you don’t intend paying the extortionate fees charged by car rental companies.

Yeah. The flashing headlights behind you mean get out the way!
Should have mentioned both drivers have separate Amex Business Plat, so well covered there, and booked a BA redemption flight, so could bolt on car hire through them.
I’m hiring a car from Palermo in the summer as well. Not booked yet but I have amex business platinum card and they have offers on the amex travel site.very competitive rates with Avis/hertz etc. I prefer hertz but would use Avis. Wouldn’t trust the smaller local companies
I’ve used Sicily By Car twice now (both in Rome though) and found them to be excellent.
Readily accepted that I had my own insurance so no upsell and minimal fuss when retuning vehicle. In fact on one occasion I was in such a rush, I didn’t fully fuel it and they didn’t pull me up on it nor did they charge me (it wasn’t much – but was one less “notch” than when I picked it up).
Maybe I’ve been lucky, but I’d recommend them.
