Forums Payment cards American Express Change of card…

Hey all, I currently have an AMEX Platinum Cashback Credit Card. £25 annual fee.

I want to look at earning points and give a card to my partner to assist me with getting more points for her spends.

What would be the best card? I like to travel, so if it can save some in the long run it’d be great.

I realise I may be a bit limited on which card I can get due to holding an AMEX Personal Card already!

Correct, you wont be eligible for sign up bonuses except the platinum and BAPP cards. While you can always get them, the first step would be to decide on a plan – are you looking to accumulate Avios? Is your combined spending sufficient to trigger 2-4-1 vouchers? Can you buy Avios to topup if necessary? Have you looked at the Avios requirements for your favorite destinations?
Edit: you may be eligible for bonus on Barclaycard Avios cards, so thats another option to consider.

Yes, I would be looking to collect Avios. We would definitely his the threshold for a Companion Voucher and would be able to top up where required.

I’m just wondering where to go from here basically which card do I choose for X time and then move to X card at X date etc?

Among these 3 cards (plat, BAPP, Barc Avios cards) there is no advantage to starting with one or the other, unless you need the vouchers early. So Work out when you need a voucher (ideally one year before outbound leg) and work backwards based on your spending pattern to find the right time to get BAPP.
If your partner hasn’t had an Amex for 2 years and is eligible for all cards, that’s a diff story – you need to follow the right order.

@CallumRoy – there is no one easy answer as it all depends on your travel plans, affordability, card eligibility etc etc
