I’ve just received the following email from Amex regarding my gold card.
“Important Changes to The Preferred Rewards Gold Card®
We’re writing to let you know about an important change to the way you earn bonus Membership Rewards® points.
American Express strives to deliver incredible rewards, value, and service through the Gold Card. As a consequence of rising costs of providing your account, we will be changing the qualifying conditions for your Membership Rewards bonus.
Currently, for every £5,000 of eligible spend, you will receive 2,500 bonus Membership Rewards points, up to a limit of 12,500 bonus points in a membership year.
From 15 October 2025 onwards, for every £10,000 of eligible spend, you will now be awarded 5,000 bonus Membership Rewards points. This will be subject to a limit of 10,000 bonus Membership Rewards points in a membership year.
If you have spent £5,000, and provided this spend is charged to your account by 14 October 2025, then you will receive 2,500 points.
However, if you have not spent £5,000 by 14 October 2025, your spend will carry forward, and you will need to reach £10,000 spend in your membership year to receive 5,000 bonus points.

Your base Membership Rewards earn rate remains as 1 point for every £1 of eligible spend.
With this new Membership Rewards bonus structure, if you spend £10,000 in your membership year, you will earn 10,000 Membership Rewards Points plus 5,000 bonus points. This still equates to 1.5 times your base earn rate.
A reminder of just some of the benefits of your card
You receive one Membership Rewards® point for virtually every £1 you spend on purchases; two points for every £1 spent directly with airlines or in a foreign currency, and three points for every £1 spent at American Express Travel
You receive 4 complimentary Priority Pass airport lounge visits per Cardmembership year to use yourself or with your travel companions
Up to £120 off per year with Deliveroo: £5 back on eligible purchases, twice every month

What do you need to do?
If you’re happy with the changes, then you don’t need to do anything; these changes will happen automatically.
Opting out
If you don’t want to accept these changes, you should end your Card agreement by telling us to close your account any time before 15 October 2025 via Live Chat through our Online Services, or by calling the number on the back of your Card. There will be no charge for closing your account, and with immediate effect, you’ll no longer be able to use your Card. We’ll issue a pro-rata refund to your account of the unused portion of your Card membership fee if you close your account. Your Card agreement at the point of cancellation will continue to apply until any remaining balances have been paid off in full.
If we haven’t heard from you by the effective date of 15 October 2025, we’ll assume you’ve accepted these changes.

Thank you. No email notice here yet. Another enhancement to consider in the mix. A ticker in the app showing the next milestone would of course be helpful
I have received the same email. Probably time to drop the gold card!
