Changing an Avios reward booking through BA

Hi advice please

I have booked a Lon hkg return business/first class through BA using Avios travelling on QR for the 2 of us

LGW-DOH-HKG-DOH-LGW – 375K avios for the 2 of us ( HKG-DOH first class , the rest business )

There is availability currently on the direct LHR-HKG CX flight in business which we would prefer

Is there any chance BA will just amend over the phone for 35pp fee instead of a cancel and rebook ( wait for refund of Avios and the ages for the cash element ) as concerned that if they cancel the return flights on QR seats may not come back up available.

avios required is slightly cheaper along with the fees ( made a 2 one way dummy booking for random dates which show available )

I’ve made similar changes on the phone for the £ 35 without a cancel and rebook, albeit not with two non-BA carriers involved. I’d call up and ask, and be prepared to HUACA if you don’t get what you want first time.

This proposed change will trigger the repricing into Multi Carrier award (QR+CX). You may be advised it to be technically not possible and will need to cancel/rebook.
