Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Changing an avios reward booking with BA (QR Flights)

  • 340 posts

    Hi

Have booked the following using avios through ba travelling business and first on QR , 2 people

LGW-DOH-HKG-DOH-LGW – all sectors business minus HKG-DOH Which is first . Redemption was 375k online for 2

CX now have seats on direct LHR-HKG Sector (which we would prefer) , if I call ba will they just change the first sector for £35 each or will they insist in a cancel and rebook . Worried that the return seats might not go back into availability as no seats are showing available if I make a new booking , then will be stuffed

Are BA ever be helpful and just amend existing booking without cancelling or

    Advise please

This is definitely a cancel and rebook situation because this involves a change in carrier for part of it as well as a change from connecting flights to a direct one.

This isn’t about BA not being helpful but about ticketing rules that often BA have no control over.

I called ba this morning as CX still had 2 seats on the direct LHR-HKG flight in business

I explained that I wanted to change however didn’t want to cancel due to the fact that there was no availability on the return.

The agent held the CX seats and advised that it would be sent to the fares team to work out the taxes and avios difference (I should be due a refund of around 18k ) and I would get an email once done asking me to call back .. she said there normally quick when OA involved ..she said CX will cancel seats by 9.00 on Sunday as can only hold for 24hours before they ask for tkt numbers

This was around 9.00am on the gold line… no email yet seats are still showing in MMB alone with the QR flight

Is this normal practice to wait for an email ? Or do u normally get called

Never done this before , query was done through gold line in Manchester

@hugo r – when your seats are at risk of being auto cancelled (which is normal in these situations) I wouldn’t rely upon BA calling back. The issue is getting the auto cancelled seats back! I would call them.

I have had a similar situation with Iberia this week. CX is now added to the list of auto-cancellers along with QR and JL.

I called this morning for an update , still in the Que to be processed

If the cx cancel it won’t cancel the QR flights also which are ticketed as it’s all on the same booking

If they did cancel (QR that is ) , would BA be liable to resolve if there was no availability

It’s rather questionable as to whether BA would be responsible. Equally, difficult to enforce if they said no. One really needs to press BA to get the booking ticketed. They do prioritise those on other airlines but that’s often not enough.

so to my amazement all went to plan… got an email at 11.00am from BA asking them to call them (they advised this would happen) called them back..

original per was changed to show LHR-HKG CX in business and the original return on QR remains as booked HKG_DOH_LGW , re-issued ticket numbers showing on the BA app and also MMB with CX and QR. refund of Avios given, refund for taxes given , just had to pay the 35 pp change fee.

Very happy BA delivered with what they are saying

never had to escalate agents I spoke to seemed to know what they were doing and had no issued carrying out my requests

@BA flyer ..looks as though BA can change same pnr to have different airlines / UK airports and not cancel sectors…:)
