We are flying back from Lima using Iberia to Madrid then BA to LHR using two separate bookings, both on Avios. How much time should we allow for baggage reclaim then checking in again? Thank you

Sort of depends how lucky you feel! There’s an outside chance Iberia will check your bags through to London, but unfortunately you can’t rely on that. On arrival from Lima at T4S you have to follow the route entry immigration > train to T4 > baggage reclaim > up to check in > security > train to T4S > exit immigration. Luggage delivery can often be very slow, but the largest element of uncertainty (assuming arrival from Lima on time) is immigration twice which is a matter of luck – could be minutes in each direction or half an hour each way. Four hours should be fairly comfortable and allows for some slippage.

Bear in mind that at MAD BA checkin closes 60 mins prior to departure unlike the
more usual 45 mins for short haul.

If your IB flight is delayed then neither they or BA will just rebook you for free.
