Singapore currently has a 23:05 (new Club Suite seats) and a 23:15 (old club world seats).
I’m on the latter on a reward flight.
Has anyone had any luck turning up to check in and asking to be moved onto the earlier flight?
No rewards seats available.
14 plus hours in the old seats doesn’t seem too much fun compared to the new seats.
It’s one of those stations that does seem to have a decent management type presence so I’d say slightly more chance of success there than other places in the world. So it’s worth a go but expect a no. Set up a seatspy in case anything comes up last minute
BA does not do free same day change on long haul.
Unless they had an issue with the later flight such as over booking and moving someone to the flight 10 minutes earlier would help them out then I don’t think they will move you.
Are you sure? Me and wife were booked on the later SFO to LHR flight and my son and his wife on the earlier one. Both booked using 2-4-1 vouchers on Avios. My son phoned BA on the morning of the flight and they moved him to later one with us for no charge. This was April last year.
Definitely sure. Either there was some disruption that day that was allowing changes, there was overbooking and it suited BA to move you or it was your lucky day!
I have tried this a few times on LHR->NYC this year on cash biz tkts and every single time I have been told no to move to an earlier flight that had space.
There was even a flight that I was on where the cabin was oversold and I said I was happy to take an earlier flight – they just told me you’re a Gold member – we wouldn’t move you!
I do wish BA had some flexibility – but do understand why they are not keen to do this on LH compared to SH where they offer this flexibility.
If you talk to BA management, this sort of thing (i.e. doing favours for passengers) presents them with a big dilemma.
If they do something very advantageous, passengers come to expect it again and tell their friends it can be done. When it is refused to the original beneficiary on another occasion or to the friend, both often end up complaining. BA will often emphasise that they are doing something helpful on this occasion only, but nobody takes any notice of that. It often ends up creating more trouble than it’s worth for them, so they have become rather circumspect with their generosity.
Offering same day changes for short but not long haul makes little sense to me.
Ditto cash versus Avios – why not allow both?
I can see that there is a “favour” (slightly more risk for BA) in moving pax backwards to a later flight. Moving *forward* seems not so much like a “favour” but good operational sense, provided the earlier flight is not already late, nor at heightened risk of cancellation, nor overbooked.
