Flying to OPO in a few days. I will have a tight schedule. I was wondering if I’ll be able to use eGates there with my UK passport?
@can2 How quickly are you expecting them to stamp your passport?
We flew into Cyprus two years ago and we could use the e-gates and then managed to get a stamp on our passport, so it is possible for an e-Gates + passport stamp to work in some places. Even if entering the UK through e-gates means no stamp, unless you go to the desk for those whose passport doesn’t operate the e-gates.

Yes, but e-gate provision and usage doesn’t mean quick passport stamping.

Whilst OPO has e gates, and from memory has had them for a number of years now (not sure how many!), they have never been open in the 20 or so times I have flown in to the airport over the past 4-5 years. I am an EU passport holder, so would be buzzing straight over to them if they were open…
OH has seen them open once in that period.
Check if any other non schenghen flights are landing at the same time. If not, and you walk fast from the aircraft/bus drop off point, you should be able to get through pretty quick.
Well, didn’t the government say we can use eGates this summer?
Or am I the only one who took them semi-seriously?

The e-gates were available to British passport holders at Lisbon airport on Wednesday, and it was an absolute mess. At least half of the machines didn’t work (for anyone), and the rejection rate at the machines which were working was considerable.

Our government did, but the people who own and operate the e-gates (i.e. countries in the European Union) made it clear that it would be after the new fingerprinting/EU ETA came in which has been pushed back to October at the earliest and even then it would be up to each individual member nation to opt-in or out as they preferred.

They said something like ‘as soon as possible’ but with no specific timescale.
In anycase it’s out of their hands as it’s down to the individual EU nations to implement.
Presumably you will still want/ need a stamp in your passport, even if you use the e-gates. At least regular visitors to the EU or those that need to count their days in the UK will want an official record of entering the EU.
I held on to a boarding pass from leaving Spain, after I had somehow managed to board the plane home without getting an exit stamp on my passport. And I’m not at risk of breaking the rules on number of days in the EU.

I don’t know about OPO, but when I landed in FAO a couple of weeks ago the eGates were working, and there was no queue to get my passport stamped. I got through in about 8 minutes.
Does food spend in the wimbledon grounds count towards the spend £140 get £20 back offer?
Can’t see anything to say it doesn’t. Just says “on site” purchases.
@HampshireHog – Mr Arora has been a very smart acquirer of land around LHR and LGW but has a rather colourful track record and no cash. It would be pretty amazing if he were allowed to be involved in the third runway project unless he got some proper money willing to underwrite the project which is quite a big ask.
Family have arrived back in Scotland this evening, but checked bags are being couriered due to luggage handling issues at T5 today.
Take care how you pack this weekend!

UK passport holders have been able to use the egates at OPO for several years now. On the rare occasions that they are open, at least.

We have just arrived in New York and 2 of our 5 bags are still in London. Seems like the problems are pretty widespread. Luckily, I finally invested in some smart tags so can keep an eye on their progress. I wonder how long it’ll take to resolve. I literally only have the shirt on my back.
Just noticed in the Nectar App that Sainsbury’s are running a similar’Healthy Choice’ offer to last year, with the opportunity to earn up to 2,000 points for buying 25 products with the healthy choice logo by 22nd July (though it does suggest loose fruit & veg, though not labelled, do count)
