Good morning from the frankly lovely Conrad Orchard in Singapore.
For those interested, white fluffy slipper-clad guests are stopped at
the breakfast room door and asked to return in more suitable attire!I agree it would be a bit much to have to take breakfast surrounded by one’s fellow guests wearing only slippers 😂
If I book a short international flight with Malaysia Airlines *in economy* to Kuala Lumpur and get them to through-check my luggage to Heathrow via British Airways *in Club World*, I believe I will stay airside upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur.
So how do I go about getting lounge access at KUL since I will not have been to the BA check-in desk to collect or drop anything.
Would showing my BA boarding pass from my phone be enough at whatever lounge BA use at KLIA 1?Thanks.
EDIT: the MAS and BA flights are on separate tickets.
MAS have a stated policy of checking one world partner airlines bags to the final destination (and I’ve done this previously from MAS to QR commencing elsewhere within Malaysia on a domestic flight), though I’m a little uncertain if that actually applies to international journeys commencing from outside Malaysia.EDIT 2: Specifically Bali DPS > Kuala Lumpur KUL > London LHR
When you check in with Malaysia Airlines, they should be able to give you a boarding pass for your BA flight. Alternatively, use the one on the app.
If both flights are on the same day (or your BA flight is before 06:00 the following day), then you will also have access to the lounge at your originating airport (if there is one).

I stayed at a rather nice 4* Pousada (Beja) last weekend, where a guest went into breakfast in his bare feet. Slippers would have been an improvement.
Interesting development is that Airtime Rewards now lets you pay for gift cards with Amex and earn airtime on that which makes it often the best place to buy gift cards now. previously it had to be a linked card but now you can use any card.
Do you have a source please? Last time I paid with AMEX they didn’t pay out “ It looks as though you purchased this gift card using American Express. Unfortunately, we don’t support American Express on Airtime at the moment, so this transaction wouldn’t be eligible.”
Though this was almost a year ago…
What’s the consensus regarding the Nectar to Marriott Bonvoy at 1:1 ratio?
Out of sheer frustration I have taken to writing a ‘Dear Sean Doyle’ letter and hoping his office can actually find their way through what’s happened to some covid vouchers withn BA’s systems that are so byzantine they would even challenge Theseus.
@redlilly – like general taxation, the car park & drop off charges aren’t hypothecated to any particular area. It’s not just Heathrow that’s needing to spend money and on car parks which need attention because of the increasing number of larger cars and particularly EVs that weren’t envisaged when they were built. There’s also an issue of some car parks unfortunately being built at a time of building technique/innovation that has turned out to be something of a fiasco – have you seen the T4 car park?
It’s particularly costly to fix at Heathrow because, as a practical matter, given the very limited space and the need for the parking capacity, you can’t do the obvious thing of knocking the old one down and building a new one on the same site.
Re the money grab, it’s UK government policy (across the main parties) that airports operate on a user pays basis and obviously HAL is suffering from the same tax pressures as everyone else plus business rates on the site are about to go up to an incredible £300m pa. As people will discover with the railways, public ownership won’t reduce train fares, station parking costs etc.
I get all this and don’t disagree. However, if all airports were really serious about reducing car journey’s, they would reduce the number of car parks and parking spaces and pour all of their cash assigned to these areas in to public transport.
Heathrow must have a pretty high PTAL rate. If it was built today, it wouldn’t get planning permission with the same amount of car parking spaces. The amount of embodied carbon, RAAC etc. in those car parks must be shocking!!
If the government wants people to use public transport, they need to reduce the costs and improve the services.
I live 55 miles from LHR, and normally get a taxi which costs £115 one way, including pick up / drop off charges, and takes 60 to 75 minutes. (Could probably get home for about £90 if I used Bolt.)
Travelling on my own this week, I used the trains and a taxi from my local station to get me home. Took me two and a half hours, and cost £66.80 without a railcard. If two of us had been travelling, it would have cost £121.
If both flights are on the same day (or your BA flight is before 06:00 the following day), then you will also have access to the lounge at your originating airport (if there is one).
Hi Alex, thanks for the info. That’s quite handy.
Yeah the MAS flight from DPS to KUL lands just over three hours before BA34 leaves KUL.Any idea why MAS would be so generous? lounge access on top of the luggage to final destination with a partner airline. All I did was book a short economy flight with them.
BA don’t even interline with anyone on separate tickets.Took me two and a half hours, and cost £66.80 without a railcard. If two of us had been travelling, it would have cost £121.
Do you not have a 2 Together rail card? 1/3 off IIRC.
It pays for itself with just one return journey for us and I have never paid full price for it (Tesco Clubcard / Trip.com / other schemes)What’s the consensus regarding the Nectar to Marriott Bonvoy at 1:1 ratio?
It’s not 1:1. It’s 1:0.5

“Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights: First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 06:00am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).
Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight. You must be prepared to show your boarding pass for travel in First or Business class on the international long haul flight, in order to access the lounge before your international short haul or domestic flight.”

(I took advantage of this when I flew LHR-HEL-ICN with Finnair. LHR-HEL was in Economy, HEL-ICN was in J)
On TCB M&S is 2.5 but 3 on airtime. Sainsburys is 2 on TCB on TCB and 1 on airtime
Sainsburys and Asda 4% for me on Airtime and 5% on PAW for sainsburys.
Always pays to shop around
I’m new to Airtime – how come people are seeing different cashback rates? Are the different types of Airtime account, or are there “status” levels?
Some airtime users have ‘ignite’ which links to a bank account. The reward for doing so is faster cashback and access to a very few more retailers. Other than that they are similar, though different people have different cashback offers, particularly where supermarkets are concerned.

Similar issues. To get to MAN it’s around 30 mins and £38 in an Uber/Bolt. Public transport takes approx 2 hours if it’s running, at least one change (bus+train) and would cost £14. It’s also not practical if I’m bringing any kind of suitcase – backpack/hand luggage only would be ok.
For comparison, I often pay £20-30 for my flight ticket.
The whole situation is ludicrous and won’t ever be fixed for the majority of people unless they live very close to a direct rail/bus connection so we should stop pretending it will be.

Also, the 2 Together card only works off peak. If we both need to get to LHR before 11:00, its £120 by train (and local taxi to the station). It would take at least an hour longer than a taxi, and we would probably be standing all the way.
Do you have a source please? Last time I paid with AMEX they didn’t pay out “ It looks as though you purchased this gift card using American Express. Unfortunately, we don’t support American Express on Airtime at the moment, so this transaction wouldn’t be eligible.”
The Amex logo appeared on the payment screen in the last day or so.
I didn’t get chance to try it this morning as I managed to destroy my phone whilst replacing the screen (so I lost out on 4% buying amazon vouchers for a replacement). I do now know what a lithium battery fire looks like, it’s f***ing terrifying and it’s cost me a new coffee table as well.
I can see why all the airlines are rigid about safety rules and devices down the side of seats etc. It went from a crack sound to a full on explosion with a jet flame shooting out of it in under 3 seconds, filled the room with dense smoke and destroyed itself and the table it was resting on. If that had been on a plane…
@davefl Wow, scary!
Li-Ion batteries are becoming a problem to dispose of as well. My local council will not longer accept them at the tip, and a web search directs people to a hazardous waste disposal company who charge handsomely.
Obviously, most residents will simply dispose of their old Li-Ion batteries in their general waste, which is why fires in dustcarts and at waste transfer stations are becoming common.
Hi all,
Just booked a weekend in Budapest in December with the BA Avios sale. Would welcome peoples views on a good but not too expensive hotel (with a pool) and your experiences of the Christmas markets.
