Hello @ukpolak – slow response as I have been busy celebrating Mrs Froggee’s wedding anniversary today.

In terms of the pesky scanners. From experience:
    – lots of electronics together seems to be high risk. We have learned that four iPads and a kindle in one bag is likely to lead to disappointment! Two iPads together seems fine. Unclear on three. If you have a carry on and a small bag then best to separate a laptop and iPad would be my guess.
    – they tend not to like aerosols e.g. the cool little foam hand sanitisers we like can cause problems.
    – metal bottles – particularly double insulated ones if there is any residue liquid seem to confuse them.

    That’s all I have.

Happy anniversary Mr and Mrs @Froggee, sounds like you remembered yourself! 😉

Oh yes – nothing says romance like interning the boys in a day “camp” so we can go fruit picking followed by brunch. Then Mrs Froggee decided to get a headache of doom plus her allergies kicked in (may well be related to the fruit picking?) so she went for sleepy time while I made anniversary strawberry jam.

And the day kind of petered out…

I have just booked KLM flights through Virgin Altantic(VS) for our trip to an Andre Rieu concert in Mastricht next year.
The difference between booking through VS KLM is amazing: for two business flights BHX to AMS 108,000 points + £130.98 on KLM against 18,000 points + £114.14 on VS. I would have expected it to be the other way round.

I’m finding cash prices for KLM long haul (UK to US, via AMS) consistently cheaper on the VS website than booking direct with AF-KLM – usually by a couple of hundred quid, flying in Premium Comfort. As you say, I’d expect it to be the other way round, and I’m not sure there’s any upside to this for them, given the airlines are in a JV. Unless there’s a view that VS sales channels attract UK customers who’d otherwise try BA, rather than AFKLM..? Doesn’t explain your redemption bargain tho.

@Froggee thank you so much. And happy anniversary!

Indeed it was the bag with three iPads and two empty metal bottles (including residue no doubt!) which must have been to blame. We’ll be sure to separate out, next time.

The trouble was, the exception queue was so long that the bag back-up was preventing further bags from being processed upstream, ie impacting everyone at the beginning of the queue, and not just those of us who had to wait for the search.

Rant over – have a great weekend folks.
