You can however get National Rail tickets including TfL downloaded to smart cards with some vendors. I don’t have an LNER smart card so not sure if that includes them or not.

So no TfL QR code etickets, but they do not have to be paper.

Yes, this is a good point. My fault for saying “only” – it’s hard to be succinct about UK rail ticketing when there are so many corner cases and workarounds.

These smart cards are most widely available with season tickets that include unlimited travel in London Zone 1-X, which will happily work the Tube barriers.

I got a few train operator smart cards, testing out which tickets are available on them. Sadly the cheapest Day Travelcard from my local station to London Zones 1-6 hasn’t been “enabled” for smart cards yet. The only sure-fire way to check is to get the smartcard and try to purchase a ticket on it, or to ask someone in the know.

Chiltern offer single, return and one day Travelcards from their own stations on their smart card, including to National Rail destinations in South London with a tube transfer for example. This may be due to their close cooperation south of Amersham, as having just checked other tickets within London or from elsewhere to London are paper only!

Hello from Canada on our way to Montreal from Vancouver.

Flying Porter airline for the first time. Bought reserve seats so had priority boarding otherwise the bag drop queue was long.

YVR domestic is smallish airport so security was quick. The plaza premium lounge is very basic but adequate for a domestic wait.

On the flight; unlimited full flight internet is very good. Food offering is adequate with nice orzo rice starter but entree of chicken was frozen cold so inedible. Wine and spirits offered to Reserve tickets.

Booked Hilton Double Tree downtown hopefully we get a decent upgrade.
