BA and Avis saying no availability whatever dates I put in!
Try again later (like in 6 months time), they’ve only loaded availbility until the end of Feb.
These are the same people that wait until they are at the gate line at the station before fumbling around trying to find their ticket while holding a coffee oblivious of everyone behind them having to go around or wait.
Or waiting in a checkout line for ages, then slowly packing all their bags, and only when they’ve finished packing every single item do they fumble in their bag for payment which they could have had ready several minutes earlier.
@iaint65, google maps is saying at least 90 mins on a train and a bus to get to Newgrange visitor centre where I’d need to start, as opposed to 35 mins drive!
@davefl, is the travel industry expecting the world to end before next summer? Ryanair also stubbornly has no availability beyond next March for most of the routes I’m interested in (VGO, SCQ, OPO, BIO).
And that is why I avoid supermarkets at all costs. I had a major trauma yesterday when numerous items in my click and collect were absent, and I had to go into the store. On a Sunday morning. Where I actually found most of what was missing. I mentioned this casually to a passing member of staff and she said “Oh yeah, the pickers just can’t be bothered a lot of the time.”
I suppose I was asking for trouble wanting to obtain food on the same day we were having a BBQ …
Security and (exit) passport control very quick just now at AMS.
But why do people stand in the most awkward of places and just generally be in the way?
This is part of my argument for a separate pathway through airports for the utterly bewildered. The ones who take 15 mins to check in with BA at MAN, the ones who haven’t a clue what to do at security, etc. The fatal flaw in my proposal is expecting the bewildered to self-identify as such
At airports like stansted and luton, the bewildered path is the one which twists and turns its way through the duty free section, while the other is the direct path through the middle of the perfume and chocolate 😀
@Misty – Used Destination2 Around a dozen times now, mostly for Caribbean destinations, they always come out cheaper, even factoring in the points loss for not booking a property direct, not had an issue.
I may have just completely missed this but RFF seems to be advertising that they will soon be able to show EI availability.
Anyone with forthcoming flights to/from EDI/GLA, keep an eye on them (possible W25/6).
Just had cancellation of an Avios booking, which of course didn’t allow me to manage a change online, so had to ring. Chap on Gold line said I was literally the 5th caller all with same request – different flights but all EDI/GLA.
Are these the same ones who stand at the entrance to the boarding queue, blocking the way for everyone else, while not being in any of the groups which have actually been called yet?
@BWS, do you have any recommendations for DUB car hire? Thinking of stopping over a couple of nights and seeing Newgrange and Knowth which are high up on my bucket list. BA and Avis saying no availability whatever dates I put in!
It’ll be the same folk who get off an escalator and stop
@HampshireHog – I had that experience on the DLR on Friday at LCY and @NorthernLass – they probably had blocked the gate entrance before boarding their flight. Fortunately I didn’t encounter them boarding so they must have been on a different flight.
@iaint65, google maps is saying at least 90 mins on a train and a bus to get to Newgrange visitor centre where I’d need to start, as opposed to 35 mins drive!
I think @iaint65 is referring to Howth, the peninsula north of Dublin.
@northernlass Newgrange and Knowth are well worth a visit, an easy drive from Dublin Airport or Belfast. We went there on a spectacular day in Summer 2021 when travel options were rather more limited than they are now. Be aware that the capacity is restricted (deliberately so, to protect the monuments) as you move between the different sites by shuttle bus so make sure you book well in advance. The visit to the chamber in Newgrange was a real highlight.

I got a torrent of abuse at Penn Station as I pushed past a young woman who did exactly that because she’d had her nose in her phone the whole way down, standing in the middle rather than on the right. Apparently it was my fault.
@Northern Lass, yes, the world is about to end, didn’t you get the tweet 😉
And don’t go there. I avoid supermarkets as much as possible and stick to home delivery but yesterday I specifically booked one from Tesco for the 1st time in a year rather than any of the others (I’m not loyal to amy of them) because they were the only one who claimed to have the particular Nivia sun spray that I wanted in stock. Of course that was the only item out of 30 that was absent on delivery…
Doesn’t matter now, summer in Manchester appears to have finished and we’re back to normal grey skies just as I finished building my new pergola with UV protective roof.
