@JDB – thank you. Will have a look at le Grand Pavillon. We have been to Chantilly before with friends, one of whom was involved with the twinning of Chantilly with a nearby town to us in Surrey. The town was well worth visiting as was the chateau. However we didn’t stay there so can’t comment on BCBG aspect. I might have said Preppy or Sloane, but maybe “snotty” is more appropriate. I’ll tell you next year after our stay. When I lived in Paris I was in the 15th not the 16th so maybe I should choose carefully for our stay!

Finally managed to use my Virgin CC voucher, I’ve never done Virgin UC before. Recommendations on seats on the 787-9?

Anything with an A after it, 1-11A, not including 7A which has no window! Enjoy the bar

And I was just complaining to my wife how awful the service was again in Club World….

Agreed, the A seats don’t face anyone so more privacy. 3A and 4A are usually our first choice.

@can2, clearly it’s the way to get an upgrade to F though!

@LD27 – first impressions are that it is a lovely property, however there are some minor shortcomings. I’ll post full details in the IHG thread in a few days once I’ve checked out (and hopefully they’ve fixed the pool!)

@phantomchickenz – look forward to reading your post in IHG thread. Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay. I was thinking how our paths so nearly crossed and wondered how many, if any, HFP’s followers I have actually walked past or sat next to on planes, in airline lounges or in hotels.

@LD27 – yes, Chantilly is more akin to the 16th or Neuilly!

It was an A380 (the only BA plane with loos big enough to dance in). But the illustration shows Club Suite.

    Ask to downgrade to PE

    @tootsci

Good idea, I should open a twitter account for these things and try there first. Sorry for the rant. It’s all rather tiresome, and I’m pretty sure all these hoops aren’t just there because of bad IT. It’s also a ploy for people like me to just give in and buy a seat.

New Avios partnership with Le Shuttle by the looks.
Earn 3 Avios per £ on most ticket types and 6 per £ on Flexiplus (don’t ever book this, it’s a con).
Can’t find anything yet on cost of redemptions but website states it is an option.

Thanks all for advice on seats, why downgrade to PE @HampshireHog?

I guess the comment implied the points would be wasted on a coffin seat.
If it’s to Dubai or similar medium haul, I agree.

3/4 A ( potential baby in a bassinet in 1G). Any A seat facing ‘ the wall ‘ is a better option IMHO than the G/ K seats facing each other as they’re more private. The haters ‘ hate ‘ the ‘ coffin seat’ but I don’t mind it. I’ve spent many a happy journey in it and any UC seat is preferable to a PE seat IMHO.

Yes exactly this, also the PE seat on the 787 is wider and more comfy than their newer PE product. As a side sleeper I find the Upper coffin seat not only short but very narrow and not a great experience. Also having to flip the seat over to change to/from bed mode is a right palaver.
Having said all that we’ve an overnight to JNB in upper coming up booked pre devaluation and a day return from BOM in PE.
PE is probably now the sweet spot using points.

That makes sense, I had a voucher to use and just about enough points with no plans to use them before the voucher expired. Not sure I’ll be at the bar much with an 0530 departure?

    You never know…!

Agree with the other comments re choosing an A seat. Depending on where you’re going, if it’s the US I’d be inclined to go nearer the back of the row so you can be one of the first off and give yourself the best chance of getting through US Immigration quickly.
    Of course, no guarantees
