Good morning from kimpton budapest. Leaving today after a 3 night stay. Hotel was excellent although a little way out of the tourist area we liked the location and the staff have been fantastic as are the rooms and breakfast (especially eggs benedict). I would recommend the balcony rooms as its a bit set back from the danube so not sure how much of a view you would get. The budapest go ticket for 3 days was excellent as we could hop on and off trams, buses and metro. Hoping our chimney cake will survive the trip home in hand luggage!
Hellos! I’m planning a safari holiday in South Africa for May-26. I’ve already booked flights to Johannesburg and now looking for accommodations in the Sabi Sands area. I guess quite a few hfp folks would have experience, and would love to hear recommendations and tips. I’m not looking for ultra luxury, and would like to keep the accommodations cost under £5k for 3 nights for 2adults & 1 child. Where can we go for the best game viewing experience?
Greetings from the Conrad Shanghai!
It’s been tropical-showery so far, but easy to get used to,
with umbrellas sold on every corner for 10 yuan and the temperature
kept below 30 (but rising severely as we’re about to leave).
The hotel has been great for our purposes: not uber luxe, but more than
fine, with a perfect location (again, for us) in the middle of the action
and next to a very useful metro station. We were also given 8 (?!) cocktail
vouchers for the lovely bar on the 65th floor (fantastic 1930s-style chanteuse
last night), as well as the ubiquitous bear/duck/fruit/local goodies.
Holafly e-sim has been fantastic: unlimited data means we’ve been tethering off
4 devices and all websites accessible.
French Concession tomorrow then SQ to SIN to see what Conrad have done to the old Regent.
Cocktails 🍸 in Shanghai with a chanteuse sounds impossibly glam, @Michael! We have just had more prosaic sandwiches on the beach in Anglesey where the heatwave is set to end abruptly tomorrow 😔
My Uk seaside tour continues. A glorious day on the beach at Lytham St Anne’s. A world away from
Blackpool.

If you keep the costs down and have time I highly recommend one of the Sanparks first. It’s far from luxurious but there was something magical about just getting into your car at 04:30 and stumbling over lions, elephants etc.
You can fly into Skukuzu from JNB and hire a car from there. A few years ago I posted my
Trip report on the destination forum.
Vueling from Santiago de Compostel back to LHR, then a separate Avios redemption LHR-EDI.
I was hand baggage only, but now been told to take a family suitcase in the hold (they all fly back at the end of the week from Oporto).
Will Vueling check through to EDI, even thoiugh they are not meaant to?
(Bit of a hike to pick up bags at T4, then over to T5 and recheck – reduces my last Golden Sparrow time!)
