II’m not sure it would be worth the trauma of actually entering the loo! Anyway, we have been delivered on time and without incident (no doubt lulling us into a false sense of security for the return trip), so of course we are ages too early for the IB bag drop!

Hummingbirds flew away. Was too good to be true. All prizes won are null and void as someone screwed up and they were awarding 75x the number of prizes.

    Games restart on monday

    That sucks.

In the US, things are a little different: “We have considered the matter carefully and we’re pleased to say we’re able to honor all of the winnings.”

Interesting, I didn’t see that reply on X, so my big winnings are safe then 🙂 Probably more scared of getting sued in the US than here.

Morning from the Dominican where my sunburn is starting to heal!

I can’t work out if you’re in a monastery, a hotel in Prague or in the Caribbean – I’m guessing the latter giver you mention sunburn 😂

Ha ha. Yes, the Caribbean version!

Just received mail: the latest magical statusmatchery to join the bandwagon is KM Malta. €49 €79 €149 for their three tiers. Matching status from real airlines to lowly hotels, and now a new level of depravity: holders of “travel rewards credit cards”. Sadly the status is pretty much worthless.

@davefl, it’s also in the 40s in the T2 Escape lounge (presumably to acclimatise everyone to their holiday destinations), and they’ve just closed the bar and buffet (the latter being rather underwhelming in any case).

Happily there was no queue to enter, or for security, (late afternoon/early evening travel is definitely the way to go), although the lady at reception had to look up what OWE was!

@NorthernLass Maybe they’ve cut the aircon budget to pay for the mythical new travelators? Shocked they’ve closed the bar/buffet at this time. Plenty of flights scheduled to depart over the next few hours

The only problem with travelling at this time is getting to your destination in the dark. Which is fine if it’s a hotel but not great if you have to drive to some villa/airbnb property which is unmarked and off the mapped road system as has happened to me a few times.

Isn’t Vegas still a place where you spend most of the time indoors? Those temperatures wouldn’t put me off Vegas. In normal times, those prices would attract me, but I won’t be visiting the US of A while either Trump or Vance are in the Whitehouse.

I clicked through when I got the email out of curiosity- I did have to chuckle at the exhortation to “Get in fast!” in their FAQS. There’s niche and then there’s niche.

    “Depravity” lol!

    Indeed. Only here for work.

And whilst it’s 40C during the day, it’s a lovely 20C at 5am, with 10-15% humidity, which makes it lovely for a run along the strip to the south of the airports. I’m less of a mess than I am when running in the UK in the summer

But, my god, Vegas has priced itself out of the UK Holiday market. It’s hideously expensive for any sort of food. $25 for a flat white, OJ and Porridge at sTarbucks is just greedy

@davefl, most of the travellators are actually working (they have a fancy new name but I’ve forgotten it already, Skyglider or something!), but ceased en route to the A gates, they must have run out of money at that point.

Yes the plan is get an Uber to the hotel, hopefully about 20 mins from MAD. We never pick up the car on the first night these days, it leads to acrimony and blaming when people are tired and don’t know the area well! And like a drink or 2, of course …

A new one on me, Tui trying to sell extra leg room seats over the tannoy! A lot of pax at this time of year presumably will be kids who can’t sit in them.

Well I do hope some of the truly “niche” airlines start catching on to the statusmatch idea. I mean, what do they have to lose right? I’d totally join Ariana Afghan or Afriqiyah Airlines for €149 (as long as they’d send a physical card).

Being a member of the aviary community is great, but I’d truly love to be matched to Air Zimbabwe Rainbow Club’s Skyhigh tier. You can’t make this stuff up.

(I was just about to join Uganda Airlines CraneFlyer at their entry-level Bronze Nile tier, when I realized they don’t do physical cards…).

Honestly it’s not an issue unless you’re likely to be picked on by CBP because of your background/passport/nationality etc.

I had the most wonderful trip around 10 states in May/June. I only came across a couple of maga fans and that was because I went in a particular car museum in South Dakota (and they advertised their love on the outide of the building so it was my choice to actually go in) but I made sure not to discuss politics etc.

The majority of the people I met were delightful, apologetic and concerned how the rest of the world sees their shitshow.

It was the ones between the train station and T2 that were the major problem, they were going to have to take the roof off to install replacements. I think it was done earlier this year.

@titaniumostrich I thought you were making those up but then I Googled them 😆 Air Astana has been around on Status Match for a while but their tiers are terribly dull at Silver, Gold and Diamond – they need to poach a member of staff from Uganda Airlines to jazz things up a bit!

Edit: I’ve just seen the cards for Air Astana and the designs are fantastic. And I just searched the Ts & Cs and they do send out physical cards so you are in luck!!

Yes, all these devaluations of status by tinpot airlines speak volumes and will end in tears. I imagine there will be some kick back at some point. Makes BA’s move to tighten requirements all the more sensible.

Isn’t this a sensible status match, given that you are only likely to get if it flying to Malta?

With no alliance sub-plot, it will attract the people they want to attract – BA Golds who won’t give up their lounge access (and so get it via the match) and easyJet Plus members (who won’t give up their paid-for benefits without some payback).

My problem with it, and KM know this, is that a lot of people they want to attract – eg those who fly 4-6 times per year to visit a second home but always in Y and who have no airline status – can’t take part, unless its via the credit card route to mid-tier.

The Skylink travelators from the station were all working, but it was boiling so maybe they can’t do air con at the same time 🤷‍♀️
Flight to MAD landed one minute early, thanks to the quickest turnaround I have ever seen. We were being called by Group number while the plane was still over Bolton according to Flight Radar!
The aircraft was pretty beaten up (one toilet door was literally broken and the liquid soap dispenser had been snapped off at some point in the distant past). But no matter as the gods of theoretical seating were smiling and there was no 3rd person in the exit row with us 😀
    No queues at passport control.
But our luck seems to have run out now because nearly an hour after landing there is no sign whatsoever of any luggage …

@NorthernLass Did your luggage end up getting belted?

Missing my GRX ALSA due to CRJ battery change this morning…
