@BBbetter We’ve had crew leave my airline for BA, many come back within a year or two when they realise they can earn more and be home most nights.

On BRU-LHR on Friday, a brief flight where only cold salad plates are served, service was abominably slow due to the bread roll tray not fitting on the same trolley as drinks and food – so they kept going back one passenger at a time to get the basket. A third crew member came up from the back to clear trays mere moments after we had received them, swiping the man next to me’s tray as he exclaimed “I wasn’t finished.” I had the small black glasses tray they use thrust at me after every sip so as to encourage me to give up my glass. And all that was ever said was a curt “Finished?” No such thing as can I get you a hot drink.

Did you get a chance to visit “The View” lounge in BRU, non Schengen?

I had the chance to visit it for the first time last week and was very impressed, lavish entrance, stylish seating, great food and drinks, and generally an oasis of calm.

A very pleasant experience all round – BA Galleries it most certainly is not!

I’m visiting New Zealand next Feb and as it’s such a long journey, I was thinking of adding Fiji afterwards before the long trek back to the U.K. However the travel guide say it’s either the warm or the wet season or both. Does anyone have any hands on knowledge of what it is like in late Feb. Don’t mind the odd heavy shower but OH wouldn’t like rain nearly all day every day. Thx

Anyone used carflexi.com for car hire in Australia. It’s showing much lower for same type of car than Avis, Hertz etc despite status via platinum. May I check that no matter what car hire company I book with American Express Platinum car hire cover would cover the insurance and I don’t need to purchase extra cover? Is there anything to look out for?

@davestat – Fiji is close to its warmest in February, and can be quite humid. Whilst it is the ‘wet’ season, you’re very unlikely to get constant rain – more like the odd tropical downpour in the afternoon. Should still be plenty of time for the outdoors life, without the peak season prices.

Make sure you get off the mainland – I’m a big fan of the Yasawas.

Never been to Fiji but have always wanted to go. My understanding is that February is the hottest month of the year there but is prone to being wet on more days than not. I always thought the best time of year was during the “dry” season which is May to October as it is less humid and the temperatures also tend to be cooler then. Don’t let that put you off though.

Priority Pass gripe – Mrs tried to get into the lounge at Leeds Bradford with her Plat Amex PP but was declined, even though it was 6.30am in the morning and she was a solo traveller – she was given the “booked up” line. I’ve had this happen to me in Manchester before (again, solo traveling) – obviously the lounge are trying to prioritise paid bookings but it really does annoy when this happens! Aside from letting Priority Pass know is there any other way of raising this?

Go onto Google maps reviews, leave a one star review saying couldn’t get in using priory pass.
If enough people did this, the lounge rating on there would tank, and they might change their tune or stop people buying priority pass when they realise they can’t use it, then maybe priority pass will do something.

On each occasion that I’ve closed a gold or platinum Amex I’ve given my reason as not being able to get into the PP lounge at MAN! It’s clearly been falling on deaf ears though. Ironic that since BA closed their MAN lounge, I can get into the PP lounge every time I fly OW.

On the subject of lounges, I went to the prime class lounge in Zurich gates E, last week.

I was a bit hesitant due to the lounges at Geneva being pretty rubbish, (ran by swissport, so no real shock at them being rubbish) and I seen nearly all at Zurich were run by swissport too.

But this one wasn’t ran by them as far as a quick google search allowed me.

And it was actually very nice, clean, spacious and the fixtures and fitting weren’t great and comfortable, they weren’t like they had just been ransacked from a skip like in the swissport lounges.

There was a decent selection of drinks to help yourself, and the food was fine, not a huge selection , but very good quality, and excellent staff.

If anyone is going from gates E at Zurich, I’d wholeheartedly recommend it above the Swiss port lounges.

I’ve only once not managed to get into a lounge at edi with pp, and I fly weekly, so I count myself lucky.
Ive never managed to get into a lounge via pp in all the times I’ve went through Stansted.

I very rarely can get in the Leeds lounge with priority pass or platinum with KLM – it’s one of the worst lounges in the UK for this. Complain all you like nothing will change.

Amex Gold referral bonus was 14,000 points last week, is it still that today or has it dropped back to 9000 points?

Mine is currently saying 14K, with 40K for the referee. Today may be the last day in line with other offers.

The other thing you can do re PP lounge access is complain to AMEX and threaten to leave and so long as you haven’t done it within the last 12mths they usually offer you 50K MR.

I am a regular there. The glass bottles in the pull out fridge doors in the unmanned bar was a bit odd to begin with. And I find they over-use tarragon (a divisive ingredient) in the food. But other than that, can’t complain. The toilets are immaculate and they don’t have an aggressive attitude of turning away lounge cardholders unlike at Manchester

Virgin vouchers, I know the limit is 75k points but can it be topped up? If booking is 80k points, can it be 80k for the voucher holder and 5k extra for the companion?

It makes no difference in my experience. I wrote a complaint a few weeks ago to Amex plat as I couldn’t get in to BRS through pre booking months ahead of a flight (I knew there be the virtual queue as a walk up as my daughter had the same issue recently ). I had a call from an extremely patronising ( bordering rude )female agent. I queried the benefit of a lounge card that you couldn’t actually use. She wasn’t interested and said it’s not a guaranteed benefit..so what’s the point of it being an Amex Plat benefit then ? It’s not just BRS, I’ve had multiple experiences that are similar at AMS.
Now lounge access is given with lots of cheap bank account packages etc there is no point in having a PP card as it’s almost useless ( and Amex Plat simply don’t care ).

I can get into the PP lounge every time I fly OW.

Thats because airlines pay the lounges for guarenteed access and will usually pay for guarenteed numbers even if they aren’t used.

I’m aware of that! My point was the irony of having managed to get in once, ever, with PP, compared to sailing past the gate guardians several times a year even with an economy BP.

My guess is an article may not appear at all.

Some upcoming IHG properties I noticed during map search:

Indigo Cadiz – appears to be a conversion

Two properties, both Onyria, outside Cascais beside the Sheraton. I expect neither may be refurbished as one is confirmed as Vignette, the other tbc brand

Hi @BWS, which map were you using?

    Now an Indigo Gandía too
