Living in East Anglia, I have been testing out the various Stay & Fly packages when flying from Heathrow. The Marriott and Renaissance have both been outstanding: comfortable rooms, and spacious car parks. The Holiday Inn Bath Road – not so much. After arriving at 2345 (only 4 hours later than planned), I spent one hour speaking with the front desk team and security to find my pre-booked spot. I pointed out that as a paying customer, and Platinum (and Ambassador) I expected much, much better. The offer of a bottle of wine at 1 AM (before an 0630 wake up, and following my midnight perambulation of the car park), which had zero value to me for service recovery. The hotel itself looks like, well, a Holiday Inn.

Interesting you say this, also living in East Anglia, in my case LGW, I was looking at various options yesterday, and decided on a Greater Anglia train, return fare, standard price £125 return, Split fare option £65 return, Premier Inn LGW (opposite terminal) £88, total £153, “Let the train take the strain”

Asking again as I didn’t get any answers last week . I’ve tried asking SAS directly but couldn’t get a definitive answer. If the bags are checked through I’ll need to sort out overnight stuff in carry on. Layover is about 24 hours.

Flight to KEF on SAS shortly with an overnighter on the way in OSL. Will we need our checked in bags to be retrieved in OSL ( all one ticket ) or will we next see them in Iceland ? I was hoping to buy something over 100mls in duty free at LHR but clearly won’t be able to if we can’t/ are not permitted to collect checked bags when we arrive in OSL.
    Thanks.

Sorry, missed it the first time around! Yes, SAS keeps luggage overnight. You can ask the agent to print a luggage tag for one of your items to be collected at the belt, and be rechecked at OSL. (speaking out of experience at CPH though).

Some BER news: all the scanners in the far left security channel as you come in (no5) are now the new Smiths Detection ones. Actually quicker and obviously more seamless than fast track now. 100ml rule still in effect though.

@CamFlyer Another East Anglia resident here and we used Sofitel Park, Stay & Fly last month from T5. While it’s never going to be the cheapest it’s certainly very convenient as the car park is under the hotel – very useful in bad weather and you can walk to the terminal under cover. Will be using again.

Anyone playing hummingbirds on TCB? Playing on the US site and it’s waaaay more generous than the UK one.

Never more than 10p won on the UK but so far claimed 6 prizes out of the 8 totalling $18.75 on the US site.

Suspect it’ll be some time at BER as I can’t see them having the whole terminal done any time soon, but we can dream!

Does anybody know how much the additional fee is for the 1903 lounge in Manchester? And is it worth it?

Going to try and prebook the aspire once the Amex free credits drop. Just wondering if the 1903 is worth the extra. I’ve never actually been in the aspire either only ever the escape.

Happy to hear opinions on all 3 to be honest!

    Thanks!

    @JakeWS from £55 but increases depending on day/time. https://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/at-the-airport/airport-lounges/1903-lounge/

Personally I think it’s rubbish and at T2 in particular the queuing system to get to the desk to actually get entry irritates me. I’d rather just get a coffee and sit in a quiet area of T2.

So far reached £36.80 on the UK site, but there are rumours that there has been a glitch…. will have to wait a few days for confirmation

I used Sofitel Fly Stay & Fly a few months ago £380 for nice night and 15 days parking. Very handy for T5 with car park under the hotel with trolleys available to get luggage to/from car / terminal. Also East Anglia !

So following on from my difficulties applying my discovery dollars, I was shocked to see a $50 a night ‘levy’ on my stay at the Anantara hotel I was staying at. This was on top of any room rate taxes and fees. After no explanation was made for the charge, I demanded to see the manager who took it off.

Later research indicated this might have been some charity project donation but the conspiracy theorist in me feels if may have been a way to make up the money lost from it being a redemption. Either way no obvious mention of this charge in a dummy booking I made subsequently.

Sorry, but this is a chain I’m going nowhere near in future.

1903 was very pleasant when we got access from VS UC back in March, but not worth £55 and I agree the queuing system is bonkers. Fortunately we were there early enough to avoid it but as we were leaving it was backed up all along the corridor and nobody looked like they were having a fun start to their holidays!

Hi, you will be able to ask in LHR for them to only issue the bag tag to OSL, that will mean it is delivered and you can recheck in the following morning. You will need to ask a counter staff member to do it though. As you’re on one ticket the machines are likely to print a through baggage tag and thus it will be kept airside overnight. That’s certainly been my experience as i pass through OSL regularly.

    Can’t see any hummingbirds…

@Norsksaint thank you . We’re picking up a sailing in Reykjavik so that’s another reason I’d rather not have the bags checked through as hopefully there’s less likelihood of them not arriving in REK with us ( nothing worse than arriving for a cruise and your language is elsewhere).

They suspended it for a few hours on the UK site yesterday. And it’s suspended again now

Where do you find the daily clue? Yesterday it was at the top of the homepage, today I can’t see it or any hummingbirds anywhere.
