Hi All,
We’ll be travelling from LHR T4 in October.
Currently exploring our options to stay at the airport the night before.
We have previously stayed at The Sheraton. However, we would like to try somewhere new.
The London Heathrow Marriott is on our radar. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Surely one of the T4 hotels is the obvious choice. The journey from a Bath Road hotel to T4 is a lot more time and effort than walking straight to the terminal.
@harrysjones21 – stay at the T4 Premier Inn (attached to the terminal) and spend the saving on a nice dinner or your holiday. In any event, as above, choose one of the options that enables you to walk into the terminal.
HIX T4 is our go-to for T3 departures as it’s cheap, convenient, quiet and handy for extra IHG night credits. Never flown from T4 but imagine it would do the trick.
@Flyer/Stayer – yes, some DJ’s were worse than others for talking before the end of the song! I’d record the ones I liked then play them on my Argos own-brand “Walkman” on the school bus, till the batteries started to conk out and the music would start to slow down hilariously!
I agree about these young folk with their Spotify and blue teeth.
Such markets were my haunt on Saturdays in my youth. There was always a stall where you could buy a cheap 3-pack of tapes to record the Top 40 and have your ears pierced for £1.
Had the occasional visit to Woolworths pic’n’mix when I had birthday and Christmas money!
I came across a Woolworth store in Berlin last year, looking it up, apparently there’s 620 stores in Germany and it has expanded into Austria and Poland also, these are not related to the American or UK versions though.
They still have C & A on the continent as well! Woolworth’s pick ‘n’ mix was the crème de la crème, though. They had proper chocolates among the selection!
Did you try and record the hit parade on radio one trying to start and stop to about getting the DJ chat?
Every week! And if I’m not mistaken I’ve still got some of the cassettes in a box at the bottom of a wardrobe!

It was indeed. Wilko’s never quite managed the quality P&M that Woolies did. I was spoilt though as my grandma ran the sweet shop that my dud owned. A proper sweet shop, most things weighed out into 2 and 4oz bags, things to suck like midget gems, lion mix and cherry lips for the folks that worked in the dusty mills and down the pits. I miss Barker and Dobson jars, Terrys and all the decent british manufacturers.
I used to get all the broken lindt/suchard easter bunnies and eggs after the sales rep had credited us for the broken bits.
Was nice to shop in Woolies in South Africa, looks like M&S but much better quality and cheaper.
And yes, recording the top 40 etc. Making my own mixes. I had a wonderful Sony portable radio/cassette/TV which had a 3 or 4 inch black and white screen.
I spotted a Woolies in Berlin last year and now I pay a visit everytime I’m there!
It’s opposite the Kurfürstenstraße U Bahn Station.
No pic’n’mix but probably lots of old Frau pants!
This is one of the best Christmas ads of all time – have a cracking Christmas at Woolies

C & A a disappointment though!

Hi All,

Stay in one of the T4 hotels!
You have a choice of 4 – Hilton / Premier Inn / CP & HIX (same building) which are all on the same link corridor and a few minutes walk away.
Whilst the HIX offers free breakfast the CP can sometimes be cheaper even if you have to chose a breakfast inc rate.
Flew to Vegas yesterday on a VS 787…. Dear god…. The wings were a patchwork of peeling paint, foot square holes in the paint, and a myriad of patched up holes. All of the (stupid) buttons for dimming the virtual window shades were all worn too. And the occasional ball of ice would fall from the AC too.
Gotta love IB. Just checked in for my MAN-MAD tomorrow and got an aggressive message on screen telling me that I must check my hand baggage as my fare class condemns me to board last. I clicked to accept this – we’re checking a bag anyway so not fussed about another one – then my BP came up declaring me Emerald Grupo 0.
OH has no boarding group at all, so maybe I’ll have to check him in as well.
Knowing Spanish bureaucracy as I do, it wouldn’t surprise me if they refuse my cabin bag at check in because I’m only entitled to one!
